There are people that were actually fans of this woman? How sad.

She did fun pop music. Not every song has to be change-the-world music about heavy subject matter. Sometimes you need something fun to just take you away and give you a break from the harsher side of life.

I've heard worse voices by far - not to be a jerk, but while Dylan is hailed as a legend, he can't really sing - at all.

Exactly, I listened to mostly serious music 90 percent of the time, older stuff, but she was part of the exception.

Yes. I liked her first three albums.

My favorite JLO songs:

Waiting For Tonight

Aint It Funny (Remix)

I'm Real (Remix)

Feelin' So Good

If You Had My Love

No Me Ames

All I Have

Love Don't Cost A Thing

I'm Gonna Be Alright

Jenny From The Block

I'm Glad

Play

-I didn't realize how many of her songs I liked. Hmm. I only own her first album though and I still think it's a pretty decent album. JLO's music is fun and mindless. I don't take it seriously, but i'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy her songs.

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

^ I used to act like a music snob back then and bash these people, but now I really don't care and sometimes I need mindless-ness to get my mind off life.

Her song's i won't lie kind of give me a nostalgic value. Cause i was in 4th & 5th grade when song's like I'm Real, Play That Song, My Love Don't Cost A Thing

where all over radio. It was hard to miss and they where fun back then. Now i kind of am like eh at her song's but they remind me of a good time in life biggrin

"If you had my love" and "Get right" were as interesting as it got for me. These weren't good songs, they were just catchy for the moment. Apart from these tracks, I never really had an interest in her music. I think her style/fashion held more public interest than her music and movie career.

I think her real talents are dancing and acting...her voice is average at best and she has good writers

I love her in Selena

Yeah, back in the day she and Britney were the queens while Bey was still trying to get rid of DC lol

I think Play is her best song and video combination, I really can't believe Basic Milian wrote it (and mostly sings the chorus too, if you listen closely lol )

I love Waiting for Tonight and If You Had My Love as well. Feelin' So Good is OK but I love the choreography in the video. I think the whole "billion marriages" thing ended up killing her career, but Idol was a good move. She's on TV weekly now and is releasing a new single soon (which is good but not amazing, hopefully the video is good and she doesn't fall over in the performances lol )

No, they were not queens...I enjoyed their music, but they were far from it, they were just ear candy. Janet was still the queen and Madonna and the two were newbies and getting attention. They were full of Janet in their dancing, and a lot of critics were comparing J LO's music to old school Janet.

This.

I love that Rodney Jerkins remix beat for Love Don't Cost a Thing, I loved how 80's it sounded and was getting excited for future 00's releases, but there were ups and downs musically throughout the decade.

Back in the day? lol Hell, I don't consider anything past 1990, especially the mid to late 1990s up to the present, as back in the day because we're still living in that era with no style change. Like Prince used to say, I'm "Stilllllllll Waiting". lol

...Not to jump in...

But, to be fair J.Lo was all over the place during her first few CD releases. You really couldn't turn on a music channel without seeing one of her videos.

Which, worked for me because I thought she was awesome lol .

I do remember that, she was overexposed and a triple threat, and I agree she is a good dancer so it was entertaining for it's time...

wave Um, I have her first cd and quite liked it at the time! "Let's get loud" pretty much was my favourite! Haven't listened to it in years though! I was mostly puzzled by the fact that someone sitting in the background of one of Janet's video suddenly was becoming a bigger star than Janet.

Nah. Back in the day is Purple Rain. Back in the day is Saturday Night Fever. Back in the day is Thriller or the "Punky Brewster" or Run DMC ruling the hip-hop landscape. 1999 (the year Jennifer Lopez "the singer" debuted) may as well have been yesterday.

I guess it all goes back to how long one has been alive or how far one remembers back. I am not yet quite 30 so 1999, 12 years ago, is less than 1/3 of my lifetime and certainly more than 1/3 of my viable memories, so fuck yeah, that's BACK IN THE DAY for sure, to me

Absolutely. What was she thinking? She was trying to gain some street creditiablity for using that word but we all know she moved away from the Bronx the moment the she got the gig to be a 'flygirl'.

I was a fan of her music I knew she couldnt sing but she could dance and she happen to be at the right place at the right time hence the latin explosion in 1999. I always believed she owes her career to the late singer Selena.

She lost it for me when she became a tabloid queen because of her divorces and her romance with Ben Affleck. It did overshadow her music career.

Yes but to be honest here in the Bronx Latin Americans(Puerto Ricans/Dominicans) used that word on a daily so it honestly wasn’t a shock that she said it I guess to white America it was.

Exactly. I see "back in the day" as the days when things were completely different than they are now. During the 1980s, "back in the day" was considered the 1960s and the Motown and hippie era. Not only the music, but the fashions that went along it and the hairstyles were completely different than the 1980s and even the 1970s. I don't see any change in the mid to late 1990s than where we are right now from the sound of the music to the baggy ass clothes.

That's what i always kind of thought - not that I live in the Bronx but there was an argument on the radio/news when it was going down that in certain areas that word extends beyond just people who are technically considered 'black' - but still, i can't believe her people let that slide. I mean, it was a remix with Ja Rule for christ's sake.

IF there was anything to be offended about re: J.Lo / race issues, it's moreso to me that she seemed to adopt whatever 'race' or 'identity' served her music/image every time. Like at first it was "I'm Ricky Martin's female counterpart" then when the album came out it was "I'm Puffy's girl" and then when her J.Lo album stalled she was doing all the Murder Inc remixes to 'ghetto' it up or something. Then her Ben Affleck phase, the music got very Adult Contemporary (This is Me then) and then when none of it seemed to work - El Cantante movie and marriage with Marc Anthony and her Spanish album (though she had all but abandoned her latin music roots on This is Me Then). Idk...the word...so what, words are just as powerful as we let them be.

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me
