Hip Hop/R+B One Hit Wonders

What are your favorite hip hop one hit wonders? You know people that had a joint that was everywhere for a while but never got the full album to take off? Here's a few, start y'all off...
Craig Mack "Flava In Ya Ear"
Tracy Lee " The Theme" (trust me you've heard it , lid was being billed as the next big thing for a while)
Soul For Real "Candy Rain"
Luniz "I Got 5 On It"
Adina Howard "Freak Like Me" (has released some decent music since then but nothing as popular as this)
Ladae "Party 2Night"

I used to love that song back in 94/95! They were marketed as a hip-hop version of the Jackson Five, but they disappeared rather quickly after that one hit.

Other great hip-hop/R&B one hit wonders...

***"I Got A Man" by ???---can't remember the guy's name, but his song "I Got A Man" came out in 1992.It was a hilarious song that samples A Taste Of Honey's 1980 hit "Rescue Me".In the song,he keeps trying to pick up a girl, but they keep telling him "I Got A Man!".Very funny video too.

***"Many Clouds Of Smoke" by Total Devastation---Y'all remember this 1993 jam..."Roll up a fat one and pass it around...I wanna get blunted my brother".

***Jade---Rememeber this girl group with the successful 1992 debut album? "This is what it sounds like when we make love!"...they had the hits "Don't Walk Away","I Wanna Love You" and "One Woman".

***Shai---Damn,I miss this group! I played their 1992 debut album to death.Remember "If I Ever Fall In Love (remix)" and "Baby I'm Yours"? I thought they would become HUGE.

***"Ghetto Jam" by ???---It was a 1994 jam but I can't remember the guy's name. His follow-up single was the funky "Sweet Potato Pie".

***"Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)" by Peter Gunz and ???---This 1997 jam was da shit!!!It sampled the 1978 Steely Dan song "Black Cow". They toured with Mariah Carey, then disappeared.

"I Got A Man " was Positive K..."Ghetto Jam" was by the original St. Louis rapper Domino (fronting like he was from compton)

Jade had 2 other hits besides those "5, 4 , 3 ,2, 1...Yo! Time is Up" and "Everyday" off the album Mind, Body and Song...unfortunately they never realized their strength was more uptempos than ballads ...although they did an excellent cover of "Do Me Baby" on the cd BET Listening Party Presents ...Jade
"Uptown Baby" was Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz

Jade was nice. I liked their followup 1994 album Mind Body And Song. My jams off that album were "If The Mood Is Right" and "Every Day Of The Week". You can tell from their style and sound they were influenced by the Emotions.

Craig Mack was a top choice for me...

and definetely agree with those that said "Shai"

For other R&B hits, there was this group called "Around the way" that had a song called "I'm really into you" that used play on hot 97, that I used to listen to over and over...

Also, "My boo" from Ghosttown deejays",

But no Adina Howard for me...

Back to rap, wish "Diggable planets" would just make another song...there's many others, but I need more time:)

Do you guys remember a song called "Ride It (The Train)" from 1996? I can't remember who did that one,but it was a cool club hit.

Damn,I gotta go CD shopping this weekend smile

Here's a little trivia...Tara Kemp, who had that big 1991 hit "Hold You Tight",was actually in a band with Rosie Gaines back in the 80s.If Rosie had brought Tara to meet Prince, she probably would have become a new Prince protege too!

She would've made an ideal protegee!

Her songs sounded like Prince productions! She would've had to compete with Elisa and Ingrid at the time!

"Wishing On A Star" was redone by the Cover Girls...but damn...Seduction...I loved them too! Didnt they go thru like 5 or 6 members???

I remember the concept was 1 black/1 white/ 1 latin...Idalis Leon later became a VJ for MTV and Michelle Visage (the white one...Madonna-esque one) had a hit with S.O.U.L. SYSTEM's "It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day" from THE BODYGUARD...she then co-hosted the RuPaul Show...and is now the morning MC on HOT 92.3 here in L.A.!!! Thanx for the remind!!!

Her second single from her debut album was "A Piece Of My Heart".I remember being in a record store in '91,holding her CD and wondering if I should buy it.I never bought it,and I regret it because I'm sure it's out of print now.
