Don't get me wrong....I adore her. But, I do wish she hadn't abandoned her edgier flair from her earlier recordings.

She's a very competent jazz cat, but her "in the groove" on the funkier tip is the real sweet spot for Patrice, IMO.

Herbie Hancock covered "Thieves In The Temple" in '96 for his The New Standard disc. Isn't this her doing Herbie's version?

Hmmm hmmm not the same. But thank you for bringing this to attention, I didn't know Sir Hancock covered it as well.

You mean the Prestige era or the Electra era?

I think Baby Fingers is more content nowadays about giving seminars that recording all-together. If she(or Brenda Russell) happens to be lecturing in a college near by, trust me, you'll need to catch the first thing smoking to see her. I really enjoyed the few(two) seminars I've witnessed by her.

As for being edgy, most fusion artists lost their fire,,,,,,,,I mean, even George Benson is doing the "Smooth Jazz" routine now lol I hate it, but it pays the bills and I assume they're already content with what they released so far so now they don't have to prove themselves? IDK, too many factors, either way I could always go back to their older stuff.

This is a good more recent collaboration album from Patrice though: http://www.amazon.com/Standards-Bonus-DVD-Patrice-Rushen/dp/B000FVHGZQ/ref=sr_1_16?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1296838381&sr=1-16

Both..but your points are well taken & you are prolly right. At least she's been fairly prolific & we have a lot to enjoy...no matter what the flavor.

Yeah, it does sound like she's been listening to the version on that (underrated) record. Still a classy performance, though. cool
