Why Wasn't Paul McCartney In We Are The World? Does anybody know the backstory? Was he ever invited? I know Prince was but something happened.

Ask THESE people:
Paul McCartney was too busy behind the scenes of each of the three versions of Do They Know It's Christmas to even bother being disappointed of not getting invitation from Michael OR Quincy to take part of We Are The World.
OFF-TOPIC: And BTW, why Kool & The Gang weren't invited to take part of We Are The World?!? I mean, The Jacksons were fans of their, right?

yeah, macca was too busy preparing for band aid 2 in 1989 and band aid 20 in 2004 to appear in we are the world in 1985

Who cares? I'm kinda glad he didn't (on any of those "charity songs").

There, I corrected the context for you.

Paul didn't sing in those charity songs. He played bass.

Actually, he did. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I see. | |

I forgot about Paul doing backing vocals on that one. And it's a remake of The Beatles classic at that.

James Brown wasn't there either. PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

I always wondered how Madonna got a pass.
I mean Prince got destroyed for no showing but no one said shit about Madonna not being there.
I guess she wasnt an icon yet, but she was already big by that time. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

Neither was Dolly Parton, Rick James, Luther Vandross, John Mellencamp, Frank Sinatra, New Edition, John Denver, Journey, and a whole bunch of other people. Waylon Jennings was there but walked out halfway through the session. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Who on earth would admit to being on Band Aid II behind the scenes? The few of the vocalists on that record who survived in the industry can't hide and would probably rather forget.

No punk acts either but they saw through that bullshit. So of course they were like "up yours with your corporate charities! ".

John Mellencamp was supposed to do We Are The World, but he backed away because he questioned how this was being handled, and lo and behold no one had their shit together and knew how to get the food moving and the funds. Thats why he formed Farm Aid because he wanted something for people he saw first hand and could hand checks too. I fucks with Mellencamp a bit. I applauded him when he did that too.

Mellencamp can be a total 100% bastard and i love him for that, i will always roll in this guys corner, cause he has never been afraid, he always says "what are you going to do to me? Im not going anywhere" To me since i didnt grow up on Dylan, he is this generations Protest singer. That's why I dig him because he don't kiss NO ASS!

Yeah in one interview i saw with him back when Farm Aid had been going a few years he talked about charitys and basically said, this one is different because i can see people getting handed checks, he also said "Hands Across America. what the fuck is that nonsense" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

?????
Steve Perry had a solo section.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah at that point Journey was coming apart, steve had the solo record and only did one more album before leaving then coming back then leaving again "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Journey broke up by then.

They couldn't invite everybody Donna Summer,Patti LaBelle,Aretha Franklin,James Brown,Al Green,Rick James,Madonna....there are dozens of folks who apparently weren't asked.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
actually,it was odd that Donna Summer wasn't a part of it.Quincy produced her 1982 hit "State Of Indpendence" which featured an all-star choir including Michael Jackson. This is the song that inspired the whole We Are The World project.
