El Debarge Reality Show To Hit Centric

EL DEBARGE REALITY SHOW TO HIT CENTRIC

Published by Justin Joseph on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 10:17 am.

It’s no secret that El Debarge has had a very troubled past. After almost three decades in the music business—twenty years of which found El battling a serious crack cocaine addiction—the legendary R&B crooner, with the distinctive falsetto proved that he was not completely out of the game with the 2010 release of “Second Chance.” Marked as his first album in over 16 years, the disc was a celebration of a renewed spirit—he kicked his drug habit while serving a two year sentence in federal prison, as a result of a 2007 drug possession charge—and a the advent of a man who still has a story to tell through music.

While his voice has a few battle scars, there is no denying that the emotional complexities of Debarge make for a brilliant testament to the power of music. There certainly remains a level of mystery and intrigue surrounding his life choices and decisions.

On January 31st, Centric will premiere Inside: El Debarge. The show will follow El as he hits the road, reconnects with fans and family. A definite must see for fans and R&B music lovers.

Unless it's on Oprah or CBS, that's exactly what the rest of the reality shows are like. Why would this be an exception? lol

It's on Ceentric. If it was gonna be ghetto, they would have placed it on BET when they air Tiny and Toya and College Hill. lol

Im not surprised but this is the biggest mistake, it shows that you are trying to use your "bad experiences" and make them a "show" and make that a gain for new work you do, that, im sorry is fucking lame.

I don’t know if it’s a mistake or not but people are interested in EL again you have to ride that wave sometimes. I have no problem watching this. Do you feel it’s going to expose too much? I don’t even think it matters at this point we know what EL has been through.

Remember, BET owns Centric. That being said, unlike the other reality shows, which really was about self promotion, this one has a real story to tell. How he had it all and lost it all, to drugs. This should be about, self preservation.

I can actually see this being decent if they give some behind the scenes stuff at shows and in the studio.

If it were filmed as a documentary of El touring and rebuilding his career, now that would be interesting. But the OP's post says that he will be "reconnecting" with his family--which smells like tabloid reality show crapola to me. El's family relations should be private.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, if this was gonna be a ghetto mess, it would be on the parent station BET.

I do remember hearing he wanted to reconnect with his "11" kids ...

Cant really give it a pass because its all under one umbrella and has the same goal, i mean this to me is no different than the Hogans or the Kardashians or Keyshia Cole or Dmx, to decipher what reality shows are "good" and "bad" is like going down the Hot 100 looking for talent.

That's the sad fact--there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a "music documentary" any more. There only seem to be "tell all" reality shows that portray people at their very worst...which, unfortunately, there is an audience appetite for... razz

I mean its nothing more than to cash in, so i dont understand why its ok to cash in for el or someone old school that we dig, but not ok for someone new that we dont dig? I mean saying that this show is going to be good and enlightening is freaking scary, i mean really? him connecting with his 80 children shouldnt be broadcast to the world, keep it behind your doors el, it shouldnt being done for ratings and a check

Everybody's a judge. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's simple as that. Who are you to say what somebody else should or shouldn't do? That's their business. If people weren't so nosy and worried about somebody's else's life, reality shows, tabloid magazines & programs, and the endless gossip & rumor threads (ie. Jackson family) that are popular here and elsewhere would cease to exist.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

its not being a judge they all suck, judging would be saying El's show is good and the Kardashians are bad, its all the same BS, to actually say this is worthwile is a huge double standard, Its El Debarge doing a show and we are like thats cool, maybe it will a positive thing, then someone like the Kardashians or whomever does one and its commericalization and exploitation and stupid. If anyone can find merit in doing a dumb ass show like this more power to you, but promoting your issues on tv is why we have the issues we have, hoepfully no one watches this, but a majority of america is pretty stupid so im sure the ratings will be good

I don't really watch TV at all, other than reruns of old shows like Bonanza, Gilligan's Island, Hunter, etc. The only thing that I watch that's current is Desperate Housewives lol and sometimes Extreme Makeover Home Edition or The Simpsons. I do watch the music programs and nature shows on PBS. I don't have cable or satellite. I lost interest in new television programs about the same time I lost interest in popular music. I don't have much interest in anything new, whether it's music, TV, cars, movies, cell phones, blue ray, video games, whatever. My turntable and cassette deck works just fine. biggrin
