Sandee ~ Notice Me

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

^^^Where I come from, people didn't listen to house music, but freestyle or maybe Miami Bass. wink

I don't recall this song at all. Did it get much radio play in the northeast (NYC in particular)?

I don't know about the north, but it got a lot of airplay in southern Texas at the time.

It got allot of air play here in NYC. Myself being a DJ, I played this all of the time. Unfortunately, the singer committed suicide a couple of years ago.

I still have her album on cassette, but I've never heard anything about Sandee herself, even when Notice Me was out. She was one of those anonymous acts to me. I didn't know about her death.

She had fallen on hard times and couldn't deal. She was a part of the original line up of the group, Expose. The had hits, with, Point of No Return and "Come Go With Me".

And this is the version that they used to play in the black gay club in my area. The radio version was OK but I preferred this version.

In the club I used to go to, they used to play house, freestyle, and Miami bass. The DJ was one of the baddest DJs I've ever seen. He was a white guy that loved some black dick and when he got drunk, you better watch out because he would mix his ass off. lol

The radio version is the original mix that's on the album. I've never heard that house version before.

They would occasionally play house music mixes in places that played regular Top 40 dance music. But most of the places at the time played either hip hop/Miami Bass, freestyle, country 2 step, Tejano, electro, or goth style dance pop music (New Order, Depeche Mode, 808 State, Erasure).

She sang lead on "Exposed To Love" and the original version of "Point Of No Return".
