Boy George Confirms Culture Club Reunion

Boy George has confirmed that Culture Club will reunite for a world tour in 2012.

Responding to a query about the band's future from celebrity fan Mark Ronson, the 49-year-old confirmed during a BBC Breakfast interview that the group has already begun planning its comeback.

"We are getting back together... next year. This year I'm doing the 'Here and Now' tour... on my own. It's kind of a precursor for what I'm doing with Culture Club in 2012. We'll be doing a proper huge worldwide tour. And a new album."

When asked about his latest solo album Ordinary Alien, Boy George revealed that the record was partly inspired by his four-month jail stint in 2009 for falsely imprisoning a male escort.

"I kind of use my writing like a diary, so I write about things that are very personal to me, things that I've experienced, things that have affected me and that I feel strongly about.

"I've surprised myself really with my resilience. Yes, [prison] did happen, but it feels so long ago now."

2012 will mark 30 years since Culture Club first entered the UK charts and ten years since the band last reformed. The pop group notched up nine top ten singles between 1982 and 1998.

Although I've always loved the sound or tone of Boy George's voice, he lost all power to it years ago, right? Or is he sounding better these days?

I don't know, haven't heard George sing since the last Culture Club reunion. I didn't know George was still recording.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Reunions can be fun but for some reason,I have a bad feeling about this one confused I hope it happens without alot of drama and fighting.

I don't like it. Most of the stuff on it has been previously available or on the Internet for ages. It's too dance and club oriented for me. It's like a dj remix record. I don't think that is the kind of music he does best.

As far as his voice, it is sounding better now that he's off drugs but it's nothing like it was in the 80's. It's much deeper and limited in range. He doesn't sound anything like the older records. He can still sound okay but not singing the same kind of music he used to.

I loved CC in the 80's but I have a bad feeling you are right. I hope it can go well too, but I have my doubts. I think George is not cut out to be in a band. He wants to be in charge and get his way. I doubt he's going to be willing to collaborate with the other guys in the band. I guess it might go okay as long as they are willing to be passive and just let him do whatever he wants but that doesn't sound very satisfying for them.

Plus, as I said before, he can't really sing the old songs like he used to. Compare him to Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran who sounds exactly the same as the 80's. That allows DD to have a great comeback.

Ahh another reunion! I saw them the last time they had a reunion. Let's just say it wasn't memorable. Partly because I hated the venue, and it just doesn't register on my top 30 - 50 fave concerts.

What reunion was that? They did one in 1998-99 which was very good. George's voice was much better back then. They also did one in 2002 which was not so good.

I'm pretty sure it was 2002. It was held at the Bill Graham Auditorium. It was an ok show at best.

What artist doesn't get hate on the Internet? You can't really judge by that.

Well, I happen to like Dance stuff in general, so it works for me!

This could turn out to be a disaster.George is a bitter, nasty person with alot of issues.I wonder if the other guys will put up with it?

George claims to have changed and says he is friends with the guys now. But a lot of people say they have changed and most of the times they haven't. The other guys miss performing live and probably need the money so they basically have to put up with whatever George dishes out. I feel sorry for the other members of CC.

I guess we will find out in 2012 if George has really changed or it's just media hype to sell his new solo album.
