Teena Marie Epic albums Japanese Mini LP CD release

Dustygroove.com have listed that the albums Teena released on Epic are coming out on 13 April in mini LP sleeves with bonus tracks:

Robbery

Starchild

Emerald City

Naked To The World

Ivory

http://www.dustygroove.co...eena+marie

I haven't been able to find info on any other websites so far.

Although I already have them on CD, I'm definitely going to get "Starchild" and "Naked To The World" as they are my favourite Epic albums, along with "Robbery" but that one has already been remastered.

Glad to see them getting a re-release, by the way, as the current second hand prices on Ebay and Amazon are just plain ridiculous. The japanese mini LP cd's will probably cost around $ 30 each.

Thanks for the post. What is a Japanese paper sleeve? Is it a format thing or a content thing?

I want Motown to do something special with the 'Lady T' and 'Irons In The Fire' CDs...or maybe I missed something? Were these CDs ever remastered?

Seems like Irons was. But I have a feeling hope that most of what we want will be reissued in the coming year. The response to her passing was deep. Motown did a box set on her in the late 90s, maybe we will see something along those line.razz Boy I feel dumb not having picked up the Wild and Peaceful special edition that was issued in 2004.

They were both issued on CD, but neither were remastered. They are still holding on to some tracks that were recorded for an aborted debut album. A handfful of those tracks showed up on the original "Lady T" CD issue, the "Wild & Peaceful" remaster and a compilation. They need to include the rest as bonus cuts if they remaster "Lady T" or "Irons".

Do you post on Youtube? I am wanting needing waiting to hear the song You Got The Love. Rick described it as "You and I turned on its side." Also from that I have never heard the extended Every Little Bit Hurts with Rick on it. They will probably be available soon, but if you get a hair to post it on youtube, please alert the org. Amazon.com finally has the MP3 version of the album now!!!! music

http://www.amazon.com/Wil...amp;sr=8-1

I've been playing "You Got The Love" like crazy since her death and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite Lady T joints. It has a similar tone and spirit to Rick's "You And I," but it has more of Teena's flair on it.

Did Motown do a box set on her in the late 90's? I only one I know about is that excellent, yet brief Best Of compilation they did for her in 1994.

I am interested in what Motown is gonna do for Irons In The Fire and Lady T. I already have these albums on original CD, but I want to see them remastered. Actually, Irons is one of the only Teena releases that are still in print along with It Must Be Magic and it doesn't sound that bad to me. I hate when these record companies remaster albums and compress the sound to death.

As for these Epic-era Japanese releases, I'm debating whether I should pick them up. The remaster of Robbery was very compressed and loud, that I ended up just picking up the original CD, which I adore even more. I'm just gonna keep the older CDs I have for now.

This woman deserves a career-spanning boxed set! Her passing still leaves a fresh, throbbing wound in the core of my heart. Wouldn't it be AWESOME if the labels all got together and pitched in stuff from the vaults, some never before released 12" mixes and a nice hardcover book full of pix and chart 4-1-1 along with other fan goodies? Here's hopin'. Long LIVE the Ivory Queen of R&B.

Yes, there was gorgous box set that I saw in a record sto in San Francisco in the mid ninties. Too poor at the time to pick it up.

There have been a few compilations but never a multi-disc box set unfortunately. I'm hoping Universal will put one out for Teena, but since they never bothered to release one after Rick's death I think it's very unlikely sad

I think the best that we can hope for from UME is a remastered and expanded Lady T, Irons In The Fire and hopefully her full unreleased Motown album.

I'm also hoping that with her passing, they decide to release her book that she mentioned in the "Ivory" liner notes "The Primordial Kitchen Soup Society" as well. I always loved reading the poems that she included with her albums. And she was a pretty good visual Artist as well. When her official site was up there was a section of Artwork/Poetry. I miss her madly.

YES! I personally think that even though Teena deserves some kind of complete, career spanning anthology, a box set is pushing it beyond the limit.

SOLD OUT!
RELEASE DATE: November 18th 2005
CD Edition limited to 5000 non-numbered limitied edition copies.

Venice, California, was Teena Marie’s launching pad, about as far away form the Motor City as one can be and still be in the lower 48. Born Mary Christine Brockert, “Tee” as a child showed promise as both an actress and singer; she performed in commercials and in one episode of the classic sitcom, The Beverly Hillbillies. While studying English Lit at Santa Monica City College, she landed a Motown-produced TV pilot called Orphanage Children. While the pilot never aired, Motown signed 20-year-old Teena Marie in 1975.

Four years passed, during which the white soul singer worked on demos with a variety of producers. Then, while practicing in a Motown office, she was discovered by Rick James. It was magic. Not since Stevie Wonder introduced Syreeta had Motown produced such synergy between superstar and apprentice. James co-produced with longtime engineer Art Stewart her 1979 debut, Wild and Peaceful, which featured Teena Marie’s first Top 10 single “I’m A Sucker For Your Love.”

What the album didn’t feature, at least in its U.S. incarnation, was a picture of Ms. Marie. Nervous that a white singer might not be embraced by urban radio, Lady T’s picture was left off the album cover, and her ethnicity wasn’t broached in any of the publicity material. And she sure didn’t sound white. The album climbed to #18 on the Soul LPs chart. Our reissue’s expanded packaging incorporates artwork from the LP’s European release, which did feature a pic of Teena. Also included is an essay by A. Scott Galloway and lots of quotes from Teena.

Wild And Peaceful: Expanded Edition was supervised by Teena Marie and is the first of three of her original Motown albums to get the Select remastered and expanded treatment. We’ve added three bonus tracks to the album’s original classic six: the 12” instrumental flipside of “I’m A Sucker For Your Love”; “You Got The Love,” a session outtake; and a stunning closer, “Every Little Bit Hurts.” Though another version of the latter, a cover of Brenda Holloway’s first Motown hit, was released on a 1994 Teena Marie hits collection, the artist pointedly told us… “wait, there’s a version with me and Rick. Find that.” One listen you’ll know why she remembered it more than 25 years after it was recorded.

Lady T’s tenure at Motown lasted four albums. She made a lasting mark, and her career continues to thrive more than two decades later.

Hip-Ocrates Says...

Teena Marie appeared with Missy Elliott as a judge on the hip-hop reality series The Road to Stardom.

I think it was all Motown stuff. Nothing more exciting than the Lady T disc extras. I don't seem to have good recall on it now that I am pressed to come up with it. I mostly remember a pic that I had not seen before. where she was wearing a floor length ceam colored dress.

I am thinking now that she may have been included in a box set of Motown artists and was given a nice little section. (What I do remember about that day is that we had visited with some outragous THC Gods that morning.)
