hehe, yes smile it's just that I have around 15 to 20 albums, but that's peanuts compared to his complete works, which incuding soundtracks is probably five times as big. so I see myself not in a position to farily rate and rank just that small segment I own. so let me just add that from the items I own I will put Headhunters on top

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

15-20 is perfectly enough for making a list!

I haven't heard many of them in years either. I used to live close to a library that had pretty much all the albums by all the major jazz artists, so that's where my "jazz knowledge" comes from. wink

I love his playing but am woefully ignorant of his full catalog. The oldest album of his I own is the soundtrack to 'Round Midnight', but I love 'The New Standard' which I picked up for his version of 'Thieves In the Temple' and 'River - The Joni Letters'. Cool thread, makes me want to pick up more of his stuff.

Herbie's a "perfect storm" for me. I've always loved acoustic jazz, black funk and fusion and he's a seminal figure in all those. He makes a point to keep his ears open for new pop and rock sounds.

Since jazz is a music of interpretation and great playing, I would love to see Herbie devote the next few projects to the music of Stevie Wonder and a chance to record some duets ;ike he did with Chick COrea!

You couldn't go wrong with using my list as a guide to Herbie's catalog. I probably need to annotate it so you'd know what kind of music is featured.
