I was just being cynical, of course! Music aside, I think they were a good thing. That's what entertainment should be doing. There is so much money & publicity, might as well shed light on the issues that really matter and make a difference for the world
That is why I like the concept of Extreme Home Makeover, even though I don't want to watch the show. My Legacy

I think so, yeah "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I read "somewhere" that Donna either hated that album, or, she hated the experience of working with Q at the time. I am a hugantic fan of this record, particularly Lush Life, SOI and Finger on the Trigger.
This record always makes me think of Grace Jones' Living My Life. Particularly The Apple Streching, which is one of my favorite songs from that of all time.

Keep in mind it was done at the time of the American Music Awards (or grammys, I forget), so it was composed mainly of people who were around that week for that reason already, so there were some people not there, naturally.
It just happened to be a very special group. As special as the second We Are the World was terrible! My Legacy

I thought it was a little funny that Q obviously pushed James Ingram to be featured on We Are the World. He could have been there in a bit part with Al Jarreau, etc, but Q gave him a spotlight at the end, too, with Ray, Stevie, Bruce, Bob LOL My Legacy

McCartney took part in "Do They Know It's Christmas" on the 12" version and contributed some sort of message. He was at Live Aid. Some people prob. just wanted to go to the afterparties after a 3 hour award show. Of course Prince contributed to the album after the media made a huge issue out of him and Madonna not going, and I think Saturday Night Live did that "I Am the world" parody of Prince (or another sketch comedy show).
People forget that McCartney didn't show up at the Rock Hall induction when the Beatles were inducted, because he was feuding with Yoko.
As far as the success of aid for Africa... Bono and Geldof had a reality check from what happened.
Harry Belafonte should get the recognition for getting the ball rolling in the US.
Journey didn't break up until after "Raised on Radio". Randy Jackson was the bassist and you can see him in the videos from that CD.

Mellencamp and Stephen King r working on a "musical" of sorts with original material written by Mellencamp and sung by a slew of interesting artists. He said in terms of musicals, it's written for men, by men.

I wonder what the musical is about.
