Too slow for the dance floor and too fast for the bedroom. It serves no purpose. Just bland and adult contemporary sounding. Sounds like some nice respectable soccer mom type shit.

So many times when an artist leaves a good group, their solo stuff is weak as hell....Jeffrey Osborne, Lionel Richie, Michael Cooper, Charlie Wilson, Babyface....weak, weak, weak. Not only do they become greedy as hell wanting to go solo in the first place, but they become even more greedy trying to please dull ass pop and adult contemporary audiences also.

I agree-when Michael Cooper left ConFunkShun his career basically died after a couple of hits same with the rest too. Jeffrey Osborne has such a powerful voice it really is a shame that his career wasn't as big as it should've been

True. It would be okay if they went back to their respective groups to do the funk but

they didn't. You look at all the pop rock acts like the Stones and Genesis their lead singers

would do solo projects but they would all come back to their respective groups. I remember

James Mtume talking about this in the late 80's. You can even give Phillip Bailey credit for

doing his solo projects and he has done numerous but he would always come back home

to EWF.

In the Commodores case, it wouldn't have made a difference. The stuff they released after Lionel left with the British guy (JD Nicholas) was not much different than Lionel's solo material, it just didn't sell other than Nightshift. After The Deele's debut album, a lot of the stuff afterwards sounded like Babyface's solo songs, so I don't know what the difference is with that either. With Mick Jagger, I wonder if he would have returned to The Stones if his solo stuff had became popular.

Changing times....for the worst. It eventually became that if you wanted to be successful, you had better tone down the funk and make it sound more pop sounding or slow everything down and become "mellow"

In the pop/rock world though, they didn't have that problem. They were already pop/rock to begin with so there was no goal to reach by trying to cross over and get money "from the other side that made the most money" because they were already on the that side.

That much is true. Maybe they were trying to prove that they could do the same

thing Lionel was doing. That whole Nightshift album sounded like the soundtrack for

80's movies like Fletch and Beverly Hills Cop. That album was weak with the exception

of the title track. Mick Jagger's Just Another Lonely Night did well with the college crowd.

Surely the Deele's latter albums were a stark contrast to the debut album with

the exception of Material Thangz and Can U Dance.
