lost cause - beck

does anyone else love this track...from his mainly acoustic album ' sea change ' ...i am a big beck fan...though i prefer his more uptempo albums...i could listen to this track all day....think the whole album was written after he split up from his long time girlfriend...just great stuff from a great artist....

For me, Beck lost it with Sea Change neutral . I liked him better in the 90's when he was that postmodernist weirdo who liked to play with a lot of genres, like Prince or Bowie.

Sea Change, with that minimalist sound and the "honest" & "serious" lyrics, was a big letdown for me... disbelief

i was a bit let down by the sea change album as well....just too samey for me....apart from 'lost cause ' nothing that great on it....i think odelay, midnite vultures and guero were great ...thought his last album was ok..will always check him out to see what he's up to...nearest thing to prince in the 90s for me...

oh yes, definitely. Just imagine, for a second, that Prince had released Odelay in 1996 instead of C&D, or Midnite Vultures in 1999 instead of Rave ... omg ! headbang music drool3

and by the way, Lost Cause is probably my fav song off SeaChange, even if I cannot relate to the lyrics lol wink

It's definitely one of my all-time favourites.

The type of song you can listen to on repeat for hours. It would be interesting to know how many times in total I've listened to it myself.

one of my favorit albums of all time, by anyone. i became a fan of the more weird and

plugged in beck, but this album is just above and beyond any other beck album.

also, if you like this album, make sure to hunt down the japanese version bonus track:

"ship in a bottle". it's a crime that this wasn't on the regular release since it's one of the

best tracks. so simple and so melodic and soooooo hypnotic.

there have been days when i listened to "ship in a bottle" for 10 times on a loop and it

just kept getting better and better.

I love this entire CD - one of Becks very best. I had this entire CD on repeat for a long time. Once again shows that when an artist is personally struggling with something in their life they will most often create some of their best music. I also was lucky enough to see Beck perform this CD live at a very very small show. Amazing.

I love all of Becks work but this CD is just something special from him and I hope he releases something soon! It's been a while...

lost cause is my fav song of all time.

I think this album is meloncholy and moody and simply a masterpiece.

It was a very sad time in my life when Sea Change was released and I could totally releate to Beck's lyrics at the time. I played it often. It's hard to listen to now without opening those old wounds. But "Lost Cause" is one of the best tracks on there. And I agree the "Ship in the Bottle" track should not have been regulated only to the Japanese release.

he's actually been doing lots of stuff. just not an entire "beck" album. there have been a number

of "record club" releases where he enters the studio with various musicians and covers an entire

album by someone else (examples are a velvet underground album and an inxs album). but the

results have never been released as proper albums into stores. most of the songs are up on his

website tho. or at least they were a while back. talks seem to be underway to release the best of

the songs from all those albums.

second, he co-wrote, produced and shared vocals (on a few tracks) on charlotte gainsbourgh's

album IRM that was released late 2009/early 2010. good stuff there.

he also appeared as vocalist on a few dance tracks by someone who's name i can't recall right

now, but those were pretty nice.

and he did a duet with natasha kahn from Bat For Lashes on the latest twilight movie soundtrack,

called "Let's Get Lost". a very good song.

Lost cause is probably his best track, worthy challenger might be "guess I'm doing fine"

Cool - thanks for all the info. I know about the online collabs and they are just ok.

Didnt know about the Charlotte's CD - I'll check that out

UPDATE: I heard it and wow!!! Very very cool collab! This is more like a Beck album with his signature sound. The lead single is a great track and there is alot to like about this album. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Lets Get Lost was just ok. I want a full on Beck album release!

I wish I could hear this in 5.1

I collect 5.1 surround sound mixes which are becoming very hard to find. neutral

And Elliot Scheiner is one of the best at it. Admittingly, some 5.1 mixes sound like after thoughts but Elliot Scheiner's mixes always impress.

And I do like Sea Change. Not my fave Beck, but it's very good. Paper Tiger being my fave song.

Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.
