Well believe it or not it is about when you release a record, and also who is coming out the same day or has something out around the same time, but lets also be real, this album of hers will end up selling probably 300,000. Ask a kid on the street with no contract if he would take that??? shit i'd take 3,000, but its all a double standard, if she had no label we'd champion a 30,000 sales week, she is on a label so 30,000 means you suck?? so whats the difference?

Difference is a major label promotes it or seldom promotes it. lol Those without a major label that can pull that off it's because it's from word of mouth more than anything. That's the difference.

But it seems more like we feel its a better record or sales are even a reflection of that, i mean if you suck on a label you will suck indie, and vice versa, regardless of sales, sales are not a reflection of anything, we should all know that. to be honest though im not sure if people noticed this, but almost nothing is promoted by "labels" at this point, they are really in this for distributing and 360 deals, artists really are doing a bulk of the work themselves or employing people to do it. Labels basically handle alot of the .com domains for artists with them, which costs almost nothing to pay for bandwith. Its really only the Rihannas and Katy Perry's that are marketed, but even that they arent paying for. So i think alot of this just rests on the fact that Keyshia is old news at this point, she was cool when she was 24 and her fans were teens, now she is 31 and those fans are on to other things.

I mean the last Styx album which was put out thrown their own website and iTunes and at concerts probably sold about 5-10,000, at best, now some will go, theyre over why bother, but thats money in the bank, my point is that Keyshia has some base following even if she sells 100,000 at a label, take that with you and go indie, even if a tenth of that buys your shit?

That’s a lame excuse to fire him, most of these female R&B acts are not selling anymore because no cares. They singing about the same thing and showing no growth. Also she doesn’t have her show anymore.

And yet Beyonce hasnt even had anything out or around the charts for record time for her. Keyshia is gonna just need to re-address who and what she is, the RB females are so interchangeable, one moment Keyshia is trying to come off as a singer, then a Mary J wannabe, then she has a song with Nicki Minaj, so its like who are you? theres no indentity, she needs to do some mixtapes, and experiment build a fanbase because her day is done.

In a pop culture where it's all about Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, & Rhianna, it's a freaking surprise to me that Keyshia Cole has a music career at all. The poor woman didn't get the memo that some black artists (EXAMPLE: Usher) are making the switch to the dance-pop sound because hip-hop/r&b is worthless.

If Keyshia wants to save her career, she needs to leave the ghettoes, the hoods, & the streets behind and start touring outside of the USA.

Well that is what she needs to do, i mean an example would be Teairra Mari, she has like 4 mixtpaes out, but the thing is she is giving them out for free right now, and all of a sudden she is getting money to do videos and now one of her "mixtape" songs caught on an a tv show is using it which prompted the show to pay her for it and for her to make a video for and that song might actually breakthrough for her, regardless good or bad or whatever thats all subjective. But thing is that its really the only way to go, or we are gonna have countless firings, exuses of downloads, people getting dropped, and 7 threads a week about Ciara someone no one ever cared about before.

On a side note i would love this teairra single to catch some light, because of scumbag JayZ doing dirty business with her.

Aritsts today dont even know there public and thats all on the internet and digital shit. I mean who is gonna have instores now? What am i signing for you? the digital download receipt from your credit card? or your internet bill? i mean the public is so seperated now from its artists, unless you've been around, thats why its got to get back to getting the interest in the live shows, if not, its all going under, regardless if you have a label or your indie, i suggest getting another line of work if this all keeps up.

Amen! Thats all labels hire, business majors, this that and the other, thats why everyone is clueless, most dont even know who's on their album.

I remember back in 2000 i met this rep from Universal and a-ha had just jumped over to universal from WEA and had an album out all over the world except the states, and i said to this guy, hey you guys got a-ha on the label now, he said "we do?" i said "yeah, the album is out all over the world, sold over a million, great return story" he said "really, i'll look it up when i get back to my office, no one told me that".

You're definitely right. I've been saying for years but R&B fans are the worst at actually buying the music. If you want to make Beyonce-type money, you're going to have to be marketable universally. Just like although Kelly Rowland don't do well in the states, Europe has been her saving grace in the past couple of years. I think Keyshia's other problem is that her songs have not grown since "Shoulda Cheated". All her songs sound like a sequel to that first album. Her appearance is much softer than when she first came out. She doesnt have to change herself completely but she does need to clean it up. Kinda like how Beyonce carries herself. There's no doubt that she is from Texas with her accent and charisma but she is still likable by all walks of life. Keyshia needs to master that art.

then she is toast because i cant for the life of me seeing her being marketable in the uk, with her drama and shit, the uk aint gonna have that nonsense over there, i mean Kelly and AMerie fit perfectly because they can do euro type music and also other things to keep them in the eye, i mean Amerie got a six figure plus check for a 10 second spot on a Korean commercial last year, thats more money than all the RB females right now made on their current catalogs added together. So Keyshia to me has no chance in the Europe.

What gets me is that there hasn't been a new change in r&b music over the last 10 or so years. That's kind of strange. We usually have SOMEONE who blazes in a new style or trend, but that hasn't happened since Timbaland came (and he's gone now...pretty much).

It's like the scene got dormant around the '90s and has stayed that way since. Which is why I'm listening to more rock music, punk music and some adventurous stuff.
