I Know Alot Of People Dog Chaka's Version of "Hair" But I LOVE IT!
This was actually the song that started me off as a fan of both Chaka & Prince.

I happen to like it, myself. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Who dogged it? I've heard nothing but positive feedback about it. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Now Kit you know alot of our fellow Chakaholics don't care for for that song or the album it came from.
And as far as some Prince fans are concerned, it seems the argument was that this version is supposedly more tame than the original.

I love this album.
Her powerhouse vocals on I'll Never B Another Fool give me goosebumps!

I have to admit that, musically, it has always felt to me to be a little more 'refined', let's say, than GCS's nasty funky badness. There's room for both versions, though, I think - and I always have more respect for artists when, as in this case, they do something interesting and different with a cover, rather than just turning-in a slavish copy of the original.
And, of course, this version has the not inconsiderable plus of Ms. Chaka's blazing vocals. [Edited 3/16/11 14:20pm] "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin
