Definitely more than Heath Ledger. Heath is one of the guys who is more popular when dead (I'm talking about you, Kurt Cobain).

certainly they were good at their art, but they both died at their own hand. I'm sorry that purplemookie feels sad today, but it's just not an important day to me just because it's the birthday of two celebrities who have passed on...I wasn't trying to be rude, seriously.

I don't understand feeling sad at the death of the death of celebrities for an extended period (or ongoing). Not a dig at you, purplemookie, or this thread, just in general. I've never understood feeling sad past the time when you first hear about it, maybe the rest of the week, or even month...but past it..I don't get it and can't relate. I've gotten in trouble with folk I love immensely over this. boxed They know I love them. mushy

perhaps in a way, when people mourn the passing of their favorite celebrity they mourn their own secret dreams of immortality. i mean, if barbara streisand can't live forever then who am i to aspire?????

Exactly my thoughts. Michael was cool, I like INXS. Heath wasn't bad either, but as you said - it's not an important day for me. Maybe a little bit off-topic, but I didn't care when so called King (I won't name him for certain reasons) died and the whole world was like "cry". I mean, you don't know these people in real life, how can you cry for them more than for your grandfather?

i'm not sad at all. i just think these two guys were brilliant and i'm celebrating their lives today. not their death.

hutch died 11/22 not today. today was his bday.

i watched 3 heath movies. he's my fave actor.

well on the bday or day of death of a celebrity i will wear a shirt, watch a movie or listen to the band they were in..

I agree with this, Kurt Cobain would have faded in to nothing without the blowing his own head off, I am constantly arguing with my SO about the impact he had on music, especially out of Seattle at that time. Nirvana were low on the list of influential bands in my opinion.

I'm not a huge Nirvana fan but I have to disagree. Yes, they are probably overrated but even before Kurt offed himself they were pretty big. For an unwashed bunch of miscreants to knock the mighty Michael Jackson from the top of the charts is a pretty significant accomplishment. They are probably given a little too much credit but they were one of the primary reasons for the demise of '80s hair metal and they were significant in shaping the sound of '90s rock music, for better or worse.

I would be curious to know which other bands from the same era would you say were as or more influential than Nirvana?

You know, maybe it's just ME, but I think there's more to the hate on Nirvana here than them being all "depressing" and stuff. lol They "had the audacity" to knock Dangerous down from number-one and stopped the trend of hair metal, something some orgers here like. Oh well, I think they're definitely influential. nod
