Other than the show signing singers who win and go on to record the same type of shit that has polluted the radio which contributes even more to shitty music continuing to dominate, the highlighted part of your post is what I hate most about the show.
There is a reason that people hosting auditions in the music world say...."Thank you. We'll get back with you". It is to spare the person's feelings. This idiotic show has a dumbass who doesn't know a damn thing about music his damned self sitting up insulting people in their face on national television. If they want to have a damn dull ass singing contest, that's fine. But just televise the people who actually made it through the auditions competing against each other like every other talent show in the past has done. Their main purpose of televising those auditions is to purposely humiliate those idiots on national television.
Lord knows I'm a bitch my damn self but I only believe in being a bitch to people that I feel actually deserve it.
Exactly. That is actually the main point of the show - the humiliation factor. Even the laziest most moronic slob can laugh at these people and it's not right. I cringe at it. It's like making fun of retarded people. It's not right at all.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these people have had serious emotional breakdowns afterward. I think a lot of them have mental issues to begin with. |

This is the best setup for what they are trying to achieve - ratings and pop culture following.
This show is not about talent. The last 3 winners have sucked, and many of the winners have been dropped from their major label deals.
Look at the good side: it gave forth Jennifer Hudson and Clay Aiken out of the closet.
Still waiting for Ruben to come out though, LOL. JLo, Steven and Randy rock!

I'm loving Steven Tyler on American Idol. He actually seems like he is really enjoying himself and having a good time with the process.
He's so freaking pervy to the cute girls, but it's pretty hilarious so it works. |

Do the bottom two fight to the death yet on live telly?
Good job i'm not Emperor, cause it would be so, believe me.

I have no idea why Steven Tyler, who at least is a real artist, is on there. He must be tired of squabbling with Joe Perry.
8 figure salary and doesn't have 2 sing or sell a single record/concert ticket. |

I barely made it thru the drab first show of the new season. They kinda lost me when they dropped Paula. Now, with Simon gone, IMO, the show has been reduced to just another run-of-the-mill reality show. I have no intention of watching any future shows. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Well - I don't really care about American Idol as

But I love the show this year for one reason....
Steven Tyler is f*cking funny!
He says crazy stuff.
He starts jamming out while the people are auditioning,
playing drums on the desk, singing back up, throwing in
some of his big screams!
He flirts with 15 year old girls and it's sooooo awkward!
Love it!!
Yes..cringeworthy...But he is pretty funny.
Still I think AI is pretty much dunzo...This really needs to be the last season..like really. |

What's the use? Almost none of them have become big time stars. They're just celebrities with gold plaques, Grammys and in the case of one, an Oscar but it's really all flukes. What's the point of keeping the show when no real superstar emerges from it? [Edited 1/28/11 13:35pm] |

Yep I agree. This show has gone on long enough. And whether other or not people like Simon...It doesn't change the fact that he basically helped make the show the monster hit it became.
Since it began in what was it 2003?......Its really a shame that I can count on one hand the stars that have come out of this show...Kelly Clarkson was hot for a minute. Dont know what she's been up to lately. Fantasisa, J-hud and Carrie Underwood..who else?..Adam Lambert semed to be becoming a huge star..I dont know about that anymore..I only like that "Whattdaya want from me" single from him though.....didn't give his debut album a listen
It's just a glossy amateur/karoke contest for the most part. It's run it's course for sure.... |

Randy's becoming the bad guy, but the two things I wasn't sure of were how J-Lo and Steven Tyler were going to handle rejecting kids who would break down and cry. She seems to be coming around and being a little tougher, and Tyler's actually a pretty good judge, although we are talking about a guy who had to go in for sex rehab, but his one liners are funny, where Simon ran out of his 5 seasons ago.
J-Lo and Aerosmith know what sells. Aerosmith had pulled themselves from being a washed up band playing clubs and had one of the biggest comebacks ever. After 1995, they've pretty much coasted on their past successes. And she kind of semi-retired after the kids, and she put out a CD or two that didn't do well, a tour that did so-so, and a couple of under the radar movies. Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, and Kelly Clarkson have been the biggest successes.

He's a straight-up FLOP. You hear more about his tongue fetishes with people in his band and audience (I mean he's straight POSING). Plus no hits really emerged. Why WWFM became a "hit" was because his fans kept flogging up the iTunes "buy this for 99 cents" route and requested it so much on radio. They tried doing that with "If I Had Another Hit" (I replaced "You" with "Another Hit", get it?) and it only did modestly. And what he get out of all of that promotion? One lousy Grammy nod and a GLAAD nod he lost to Gaga anyways. And some MuchMusic awards in Canada (for some reason Canada liked him). I think him being on American Idol ruined any chance he has to become a star now. It'll stay with him like a curse. You hardly hear about him anymore unless you went searching on the Examiner and/or Idol sites. |

Yea it's a shame because I actually did enjoy him on the show...I thought he had a great voice albeit a bit theatrical but great nontheless and I thought he was the most interesting contestant to date at the time..and I couldn't believe the other kid won. I dont even recall his name that's how forgettable he was...all I remember was he always wore these country bumpkin plaid shirts....
Its a shame that the biggest buzz he got was that orgy fest of a performance he gave at that award show...and the fact that he came out the closet but other than that...it seems like he's gone the way of all the other contestants...Land of the Forgotten Idols. |

No it didn't, definately a big part of his downfall. Big chance at a major award show to prove yourself and he ruined it.....

It's like a big black mark. I kinda noticed RCA milking that album dry. Last I heard he had an acoustic EP of some songs from that album from live performances but no one cares. Now he's being mocked on Entertainment Weekly for stealing Joan Jett's hairdo. |

Ahaha so true.....but who looks better in it though
As a straight female...I did find him strangely attractive. He has pretty eyes. The heavy black
liner does 'em justice.

You complain about Britney, yet you support American Idol? Another arm of Simon Cowell's tiresome, drab, fake, money-making machine, designed for even the lowest common idiot to be able to laugh and look down at the deluded idiots making fools of themselves, and then masquerading as a "talent contest" when they already know damn well who they're going to sign and who they aren't, a few episodes in? A show that promises the world to it's winners and more often than not, delivers absolutely nothing? A show that is essentially nothing but glorified karaoke and doesn't support artistry in the least? The words pot, kettle and black are springing to mind.

I will catch a show now and then, but never the beginning shows. You know where they make fun of people. I only watched the finally of AI with Prince, because I knew he would show up. (Once they asked him to do the show and he said he didn't have the time. I knew he'd show up for the finale 25 million + viewers is great promotion.) 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |
