You complain about Britney, yet you support American Idol? Another arm of Simon Cowell's tiresome, drab, fake, money-making machine, designed for even the lowest common idiot to be able to laugh and look down at the deluded idiots making fools of themselves, and then masquerading as a "talent contest" when they already know damn well who they're going to sign and who they aren't, a few episodes in? A show that promises the world to it's winners and more often than not, delivers absolutely nothing? A show that is essentially nothing but glorified karaoke and doesn't support artistry in the least? The words pot, kettle and black are springing to mind.

I have no idea why Steven Tyler, who at least is a real artist, is on there. He must be tired of squabbling with Joe Perry.

But it makes sense for J-Lo. She can't sing, can barely act, and 99.9% of her own catalogue is complete and utter shite. She has to do something.

Face it man ... you may not like the AI / X-Factor setup but Britney would not win any of them she's not got a voice and can't sing live .... looks can only take you so far....lol

Britney is "Pure" marketing hype ..... you should know that....lol

Lucky for her AI and X-factor came on TV later .....As I have always stated on the org... her career is 99% Marketing 1% Luck and 0% talent.....lol

I'd take Britney ANY day over some of the garbage artists that win that show, and the other shows coming from Simon Cowell.

People like Ruben Studdard, Jordan Hicks, David Cook, Leona Lewis won't be around in 5 years, let alone a decade. Most of them have already been dropped, actually.

So you'll take someone who can't sing over people to can just about sing.....? lol

Britney is only around because of she is a product of her record company and she is white and good looking if you like girls dressed in schoolgirl uniforms and red rubber suites and she came just before AI/X-factor ......talent and singing is not why she's here....lol

Lady Gaga Interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show ...........0.50 onwards is all about Britney!

Are we complaining about JLO not being able to sing being a judge on which PAULA ABDUL was??? Are we kidding? Jlo is pavarotti compared to Paula Abdul, Paula Abdul has possibly the worst voice in history of voices, the fact that Paula sold zillions of records should speak volumes to what a pop star really is and ISNT.

I still love that Richard Marx did a thing on that on his Webcam on his website, he said how Idol wasnt good because no one was learning to be an artist, you were doing nothing but Karaoke, and then he said "Come on, Paula a judge, really??" Good Richard!!

No one denied that Paula judging another's voice was ridiculous. I don't think that's why JLo is really there. She's a star and her appearance is basically the "celebrity factor" for the show. Just like Paula.. no one really knew about Simon and Randy when the show was first announced. Also, the whole "i'm too nice to reject anyone" attitude may actually redeem JLo of the whole overbearing diva persona that she's known for.

CynicKill

Back when I was watching AI Paula kinda endeared herself to me when one time Simon tried to put her in her place by trying to do the whole you-don't-know-anything-Paula-you're-a-choreographer thing. Paula stood up, lead with her finger and let her neck follow and pretty much told him how many records she sold, how many world tours she's done and how many grammy's she's either won or was nominated for. Now none of this proves that she can sing but she was pointing out that if anyone on that panel deserved to judge on AI, she was it!

The way I see it, the ones that do participate in the show have promise when they start out, once they win or they become a runner-up, something happens to them, and not always good. Wannabe Idol is a curse, I think.

The runner up’s honestly do better than the winners on that show. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood was the best winner’s imo. Jordin and Fantasia had moderate success but I usually enjoy the runner up's.

You can expect them (runner-ups) to do better because they get the underdog tags but that lasts about two years lol

And let's not forget the success of Jennifer Hudson in her film career. Can't say the same for her music career - in fact, I don't hear her singing anything outside that Weight Watcher's commercial, but she still did very well in filming, nonetheless.

I think people think that shows like Idol are designed to create "stars." When in actuality, it is to give someone a shot at a career they dream about. Everyone is not going to have huge success as a singer in the industry. However, if a person gains notoriety and find their place in the business, then it can be deemed as successful.

People always try to bring down winners like Ruben Studdard and Fantasia, but the truth is, these people are pretty successful. No, they are not at the top of the pop charts, but they are constantly working and recording. Fantasia has had a lot of urban hits since she has left the show. "I'm Doing Me" is getting regular airplay and her recent album has sold pretty well.

The same can be said for Ruben. My biggest issue with Ruben is that he should just go Gospel. His most successful projects have been on the Gospel side of things.

It's definitely time for the show to end. Especially now, there is no judge that is enteratining (other than Steven Tyler).

clapping

Other than the show signing singers who win and go on to record the same type of shit that has polluted the radio which contributes even more to shitty music continuing to dominate, the highlighted part of your post is what I hate most about the show.

There is a reason that people hosting auditions in the music world say...."Thank you. We'll get back with you". It is to spare the person's feelings. This idiotic show has a dumbass who doesn't know a damn thing about music his damned self sitting up insulting people in their face on national television. If they want to have a damn dull ass singing contest, that's fine. But just televise the people who actually made it through the auditions competing against each other like every other talent show in the past has done. Their main purpose of televising those auditions is to purposely humiliate those idiots on national television.

Lord knows I'm a bitch my damn self but I only believe in being a bitch to people that I feel actually deserve it.

Well - I don't really care about American Idol as

a platform for discovering the next big star.

But I love the show this year for one reason....

Steven Tyler is f*cking funny!

He says crazy stuff.

He starts jamming out while the people are auditioning,

playing drums on the desk, singing back up, throwing in

some of his big screams!

He flirts with 15 year old girls and it's sooooo awkward!

Love it!!

lol

No it's not, his franchise is X-Factor. Not that there's anything wrong with some Cowell-manufactured, easy-listening muzak; nobody's thinking he's gonna save the face of popular culture as we know it, and the winners that emerge from these shows share the same bed w/Spears, GaGa et al. At least in terms of being authentic artists.

Aerosmith have used outside songwriters since '87s Permanent Vacation. Tyler knows all about being a performing seal.
