My 9 year old niece has no interest in MTV and shows like Skins are aimed at teens. It's a show that originated here and I don't know a single person under 13 who watches it, children have no interest in watching shows like that. My niece doesn't care about any of that Hannah Montana or High School Musical nonsense either, she has better taste than that.
However, my niece does listen to the Billboard charts, and has Lady Gaga, Britney and Rihanna on her iPod. Her parents are the most responsible people I know and the best parents, they aren't going to stop her listening to music when we're all professional musicians ourselves and 95% of what's on the Billboard is perfectly fine.
I just think Rihanna ought to realize that maybe pushing a song like "S&M" might not be the best idea given that she has a young fanbase and it's not really appropriate for them to be going around singing about whips and chains. Even though they have no understanding of the meaning, it's still not exactly subtle.
The American pop music market is designed to corrupt the youth. Its a large tool for mass subliminal suggestions, which is why so many singers and rappers shout brand names in their songs. pretty much the entire market is selling sex to teenaged girls these days. We're out of the violent 90s, so sex is what's left. Well, sex and drugs. Rihanna doesn't write. The words coming out of her mouth are not hers. They are probably that of some porn-addicted grown ass man who has gone so far into their own fetishized reality that they don't think of what is and isn't acceptable OR the song was probably written for another artist (most likely) who caters to a more adult crowd and somebody at the company heard it and decided it was time to make the "good girl gone bad" live up to her moniker. Either way, its no surprise. The youth of today are being attacked from all sides; bombarded with titilation from every direction by corporate fucks who want to get a generation into their mindset so they can sell them shit. Nothing in the pop market is jst about music anymore. Its all "building a brand" bullshit. Pop music is just a tool nowadays.
Oh, and everybody knows damn well that's Janet's old hairstyle. Ray Charles could see that.

Chile, is u blind? It's not being a stan to say that Rihanna's current style is very much Janet circa 1997-1998 (intentionally or not, who knows?). People act as if it's the first time a pop star has worn this hairdo when, frankly my dear, it's not.

Rihanna does rock the hair style better than janet ..... two things Janet does not do well
1 - Being Too Sexy / Pushing Sex
2- Dress and Hair Styles ... she's no fashion icon for sure

I give Janet plenty of credit AND blame for being a nice woman.
It would potentially be too easy for Janet to go after Rhianna in much the same way Lil'Kim have been going after Nicki Minaj for being a clone/wannabe/mini-me. |

Actually, they had fashion designers deciding who was the best dressed--had nothing to do with MTV itself. And they didn't give awards, it was just a top ten countdown. But, you're probably to young to know or even remember. And I wasn't implying that it "meant" anything, just stating facts. Which is something you don't seem to do too well with. Why am I even going back and forth with someone who said Janet Jackson of all people isn't a style icon? Clearly you've bumped you head somewhere along the way. Poor thing.
