The Beatles ~ Honey Pie

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Paul's homage to Tin Pan Alley.

Intentiionally hokey.

Nice.

George Harrison has said that the group really broke up when Brian Epstein died. That's when Paul tried to take over.

I have owned the White Album since high school and have never listened to the second disc.

Sad, I know...its just that disc one is sooooooo good!

Arguably the best two sides of music ever.

Not a particularly strong argument given you haven't listened to the 2nd disc.

What an album!

I would change the configuration of the tracklist though.

Can somebody tell what were the outtakes that were left off that album though?

I think SI means that this would be 2 sides of a record (1 & 2). The 'disc 2' would be sides 3 & 4. I mostly play records, so it made sense to me. lol

I think that Junk was written for this album. It wound up being recorded for a Paul solo album later because the group refused to record it. John's Cold Turkey was also rejected, but I'm not sure it was for the White album. A few of the songs for George's All Things Must Pass album were also rejects from the White album. The outtake I'm really interested in though is the 27 minute version of Helter Skelter. It's not like the album version, but the earlier slower version. From what I've read, the 27 minute version has never been mixed. Here's the 2nd take which is 12 minutes.

A number of tracks were first tried out during these sessions, but ended up not being used until later - including several songs that showed up on Abbey Road (She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, Mean Mr. Mustard, Something, etc) and some that showed up on Beatles' solo albums (Paul: Teddy Boy, Junk; John: Jealous Guy (then known as 'Child of Nature'); George: Several, including "All Things Must Pass".

2 completed tracks were cut from the final tracklisting: George's "Not Guilty" and John's "Whats the New Mary Jane"

Both were widely bootlegged and finally officially released on Beatles Anthology III

George later re-recorded "Not Guilty" for his self-titled LP in the late 70's.

disbelief My favorites on Disc 2 are "Sexy Sadie," "Savoy Truffle," "Cry Baby Cry," "Helter Skelter," and "Long, Long, Long."

Seriously, how the hell do you listen to the White Album without "Sexy Sadie"?!? hmm

Old school, baby!

And I should rephrase...I have listened to the second disc, just never all the way thru.

Sort of scanned thru and was pissed when the version of "Revolution" wasnt the more popular rock out version.

Never went back to it as disc one is so awesome.

I think its time. nod

If you want to know about The Beatles songs, here is a good book to get.
