What kind of question is this? Few people last as long as Madonna has on their looks. If prettiness, sexiness, or whatever, were all there was to her, then Madonna wouldn't have survived past the 80s. Madonna is as successful as she is because she kept evolving, never stayed in one place for too long, and was usually one step ahead of her audience, contemporaries and critics. Hers is a playbook that every aspiring and new artist should pay very close attention to.

Obviously looks do play a part, but Madonna has never been "beautiful". She knows how to work her sex appeal for some people though, and her main thing is she's the gimmick queen. It's not about how pretty is-instead it's more about how she changes her appearance with different albums. The gimmicks, along with getting the right people to write and produce her music are what kept her in the game for so long.

BTW, my posting those videos had nothing to do with an opinion of Madonna's beauty or commentary on the OP's obsession with appearance. Those are just my favorite Madonna looks.. I couldn't help myself.

Would Prince be as successful if he was dressing up normally?

Well, Lady Gaga looks like a tarted up horse and she seems to have done well for herself so far.
