No, it's not live at all. The only live parts is when she says things like "Let me hear you" but overall it's just pre-recorded vocals from previous performances and the RWU tour.

Oh so your stalking me now? Every comment I make? You need to grow up and stop acting like a three year old. Act your age or I will keep reporting you for flaming. Janet is not your fucking mother or sister. grow a spine and stop taking things so personally, especially since we both agree that her vocals are not live so what is the problem, and I did compliment Janet anyway. if you have a problem with me take it to the orgnotes. Yeah well you act like it by being unnecessarily negative. And you're annoyed by a post I made for which you agreed to anyway in your post to another Orger? Wow that makes a lot sense. whatever....enjoy your day. [Edited 2/10/11 11:21am]

Is it possible for performance artists who have iconic routines in their videos to ever win in a live environment?
We watch their clips in heavy rotation for years until their routines are burned into our minds.
Then we go and see them live. And it's lose / lose for them.
If they don't do the routines we know - we feel ripped off - OMG I can't believe she didn't do the routine from If, or RN, or Escapade.
But if they do the routines we know - we feel ripped off - OMG I can't believe she's doing the same old same old.
Like it or not the video age has bound *most* of the modern day performers into a routine that the fans want to see.
This isn't excusing doing the same tour over and over, but you have to give some stars some leeway when it comes to iconic routines and performances. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

You make 0 sense.
No one's telling Janet not to do her routines but she could always add some new flavor and something refreshing to her performances. That's all her fans are asking for. Why do the same exact thing over and over? She has the talent to re-invent herself but she doesn't do it. Fans have been giving her "leeway" for a whole decade now. Just sayin'.

Just the other day, I thought about comparisons when a friend told me this story:
A mother walked into the bedroom of her five-year-old daughter. The little girl, scissors in hand, was busy snipping all the curls off her very curly hair.
“Baby!” cried the mother. “What are you doing?”
“Getting pretty,” said the little girl. “All the pretty girls in my school have straight hair.”
“You are pretty,” said the mother. “Curls are pretty.”
“But straight hair is prettier. With straight hair, I’ll be more popular and everyone will love me.”
The story broke my heart.
 love her. She seems moved easily.

Actually - your statements back up I am making sense. People want Janet to do the routines to the iconic songs. The refreshing performances space should be explored in songs that aren't the iconic routines, like a Love Will Never Do or a When I Think Of You or even Pleasure Principle.
I think we all agree we want to see Janet refresh her show and keep evolving as an artist - but still have those iconic moments and routines.
Like I said it's no excuse for not changing things up in the way the whole show is presented but it is a balancing act between what fans expect in terms of routines and giving us all something new. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

I agree that she should try new things as well. But that pacing backand forth act is not "Janet Status" .And The funny Part is Janet would be Fine if she would put away those damn heels. I was Just watching her Scream MTV tribute. And I think It's safe to say that She put These Little girl in music today, To SHAME. Now I'm looking at some of her performances and it's like What the hell? I dont whether to blame her or her choreographer
damn, damn, damn

I completely disagree. Janet can still keep her iconic moves and give a refreshing performances. There's no excuse! By the way, LWND (WY) and When I Think of You don't have iconic moves but she's been doing the same "a dancer is going to sneak up behind me and I'm gonna act surprised and giggle" routine for that song for many years now.
Pleasure Principle and If are iconic but she can always add new things to those performances. Not everything has to be a direct copy of the performance before. It's all about evolving as both a performer and artist which sadly Janet has stopped doing years and years ago.

Although I am not going to get sucked into any debate, I observed that Janet seemed to lipsynch to some songs, while others on the tour so far were defintely live. You can make your own choices and observations from whatever bias or perspective that you want. This is just my objective observation from what I have seen and heard so far. I enjoy Janet's music but I am not a rabid fan. I think these concerts look like a lot of fun and I am really jazzed about going to the two in my city. A great opportunity to see an artist I like a lot who has made some great music which is part of the soundtrack of my life, just as MJ and Prince are. Plus I don't have to spend the bucks to travel to see her like I did Prince! So, I will attend these concerts totally expecting to have a great time...with no anticipated prejudices attached. I'm very late to this party but after getting funked up by Prince the last couple of months, I am gonna get even more funked up by Janet next month at Radio City in NYC a week from my birthday and I'm super excited! She can't do no wrong in my eyes performance wise and I cant wait to see her "Again". I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Exactly. If people could just get over themselves and see it as a good time experiencing Janet in concert, they'd be a lot happier. "Get up off that grey line"

Wow, janet just shared some very touching stuff and all you guys can go on about is lip synching?

It'd be nice if Janet fans weren't so delusional and allowed discussions that didn't praise everything she does. Meh.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Trueiopian, it's not about being delsional or praising everything she does, but why be a killjoy? After years of being ridiculed and underrated (particularly since the SB), why not be happy that she's touring, selling out dates and connecting with the fanbase again? Some of the songs may be lip-synched, or partially lip-synched, but there is no way that everything is (particularly the ballads). Janet is a world-class performer, one of the greats. She got good reviews for her last film and is about to release a book. She's even talking about recording again. For the haters, it's expected for them to talk shit, but why pick and nag on every single thing? "Get up off that grey line"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Everything is lip-synched just compare and contrast videos from Essence, American Idol and etc. to these performances. It's "killjoy" because I'm not saying "Woo! Janet is so flawless and slaying everything in sight". I was actually hoping this thread wouldn't turn into J|X pt. 2 but I see it's already heading there. Whatever. I'm allowed to express my opinion whether you or anyone likes it or not. I'm a Janet fan but I don't love/like everything she does. It is what it is. [Edited 2/11/11 11:38am]

Her sit-down ballads are not lip-synched. Portions of the fast songs may be, but probably not 100%. I'm not necessarily in love with everything she does, but I'm not so jaded that I sit and pick apart every thing either. You are allowed to express anything you want, and so am I, and it's tiring seeing people complain about the same things over and over again. "Get up off that grey line"

I doubt she's gonna put this on DVD.
I found some reviews from her Jakarta performance. I'll post them later.
