I just watched it for myself, she seemed to have carried herself better than her other siblings have and I think that was a better answer than how her other siblings have
BUT still, you'd think this family with over 40 years in the spotlight and knowing how the media (including those on that very show) has treated them and their brother, they'd be on guard "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

If they ain't learned then, how the fuck anyone thinks those numbskulls will learn now? Look at their damn daddy!

NO
I WILL NOT LOOK AT JOE, TIMMY!!
I know they love their brother BUT with this trial going, it wouldn't be wise to talk about "certain" subjects. It's like Berry Gordy's classes on PR were for nothing "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

She's mature and answers thoughtfully.... and then when you get to the question that comes on at 2:45, you wonder why the Jacksons bother with such shows. It was a very unnecessary and random interview. Perhaps she's giving the family's side of the story given that there's a trial going on.

Because in the Jacksons' world, Berry Gordy didn't put the Jacksons where they are. It was all from Joe's whip and Katherine's Jehovah Witness teachings. Not Berry Gordy, not Bobby Taylor, not Gladys Knight, not James Brown, not Sam & Dave, not Gordon Keith, not Diana Ross, no, none of them helped. It was because of Joe and Katherine, especially Joe because he learned how to handle shit from the steel mills by whipping his kids into submission so they can become the greatest of all time. Even Michael said Joe was a "genius". A genius at WHAT?!

That said, if I was gonna be on the show and someone attacked my brother AND father, I'd be like "now hold up..." I haven't seen none of them do that.

I'll give Joe's props though for what he did. He was the one who instilled the work ethic the brothers had until 1989 and it was because of him that the brothers never really fell out of the public eye. And he was the one who got them out of the Motown contract. Yeah they got sued later on...but still
Bobby Taylor doesn't get any props and Gordon Keith been hocking the same Steeltown mastertapes since the 70s. How many "new discoveries" of Big Boy have we had so far? It was a big decision at Harpo whether or not to do the Katherine Jackson show. This Friday, go inside the exclusive. Tune in at 8/7c on OWN.

Exactly. But to be fair to the press the Jacksons themselves are primarily responsile for most a lot of the attacks. The media looks for problems and they willingly gave it to them.
Latoya was the first to get the ball rolling in the mid-late 80s when she went around lying on her parents, lying on her siblings, repeating stuff that Gordan gave her, writing a "tell-all book." Then Michael gets on tv and talks about how abusive his father was, rumors start, stuff gets added, subtracted, taken out of context. Then some of them come back, "Oh you know, I didn't mean it like that." Too late. You can't blab like that over the years and not expect to be mistreated. I wouldn't have said anything.
They suffer the consequences. Now when anyone ever mentions Joe it's always got a negative spin like the man never does good, the father's fighting with the mother, this one doesn't like that one, he's jealous of that one...
Just tell them to play the damn CD and shut up about everything else.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I like Oprah but do you honestly think she gives a shit about the Jacksons? Or is it chiefly about her and her ratings? Why even bother? She didn't clear about anything, it's the sames questions OVER and OVER, it's like beating a dead horse.
It's pointless. | |

I want to know their reasoning behind certain decisions because they should know by now how it's gonna go down "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I always say it's what THEY DO that I find a problem with and ALL of them are guilty of it. That's why I'm more like "fuck them" because it seems once they open their mouth, their foot is ready to be shoved in it. It's sad, you're supposed to have this knowledge after 40 years and you're still acting like naive cowards. [Edited 1/27/11 19:17pm]

Joe and 'em should THANK their lucky stars that Bobby Taylor even went through what he went through so the Jacksons could be in MOTOWN to fucking begin with!

It was a big decision whether or not to interview a Jackson about Michael Jackson? Oh please Oprah, who are you kidding?? She's been riding his **** for ratings since his death. And I'm not at all surprised at her using the term "sexual abuse charges" for this promo. Yeah, I say that too. Joe getting them off Motown was one of the most important and decisive moves in Michael's whole career I feel. I think both Joe and Michael went to Gordy and asked to leave. Jermaine wanted to stay of course (fair enough considering Hazel) but if they would of stayed at Motown, they probably would of become an oldies act like other motown acts or faded into obscurity ala Jermaine. Motown was pretty much finished as a major by the late 70's outside of Gaye, Wonder and maybe Diana Ross. Particually compared to their heyday.
Even premier Motown acts like the Temptations, despite making contemporary pop/rnb albums untill the mid 90's, became an oldies act. The Jacksons never did so props on the spot for Joe kicking up a fuss when him and the brothers were sick of some of the songs Motown were giving them. And props to CBS who were allegedly going to drop them after "goin' places" until Mike and Joe again kicked up a fuss and demanded to produce and write their own material. Back then record companies would give you second and even third or forth chances, unlike now unfortunately.
Joe was an asshole in alot of ways but at least he never conned his boys money wise which he could of done so easily, even if it was probably him who got the brothers to do that awful 70's variety tv show after nearly killing their careers in Vegas in the mid 70's (another bad career move). Mike hated doing the tv shows (and probablh Vegas) and I don't blame him. It was wack! Still, Joe Jackson did find them "blame it on the boogie", so he wasn't all bad all the time LOL. And in an odd way, he did have their best interests at heart.

^^^ I hope all the Jacksons watch this as a lesson learned. They may need a tutor to point out the obvious though.

Too be fair, Joe was always about the family (besides almost kicking Marlon from rhe band in the early days ...) From day one, he didn't like it when they were intoduced as Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, he didn't like it when Motown sprung them off solo one at at time, and he wanted more from Motown than them just singing and dancing. Later on, he wanted them together even after Thriller took of, Joe always wanted the family together. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Yeah Joe supposedly wanted the brothers to support the "bad" tour LOL. Jermaine always wanted the reunions. He states how much he loved the "Victory" tour in the "Precious moments" CD booklet. That tour obviously meant alot to him, and you can see why as I guess he missed being onstage touring with his brothers.
No question that without Joe, there would be no Jackson 5. To put it bluntly, he pushed and pushed them, and it worked. Even Mike knew that. But he made some valid and important decisions after they became famous aswell, whilst not forgetting some terrible business decisions along the way (after all I imagine Joe musta sorta made it up as he went along LOL). Being their manager long after they were famous with 0 business or music experience LOL.

Joe pushed that belt. Michael had the musical vision to take his family to where they got to. In a way Joe and the rest of the family used Michael. They knew he was their meal ticket out of Gary.
