Mighty Aphrodite ... Kylie Minogue plans 'journey of joy, excitement and glamour'

Kylie Minogue has announced new dates for her forthcoming Les Folies world tour. The pop star is not just adding North America to her trip around the globe – she promises "the most technologically advanced and extravagant stage that has ever been built to date", including a $25m (£16m) setup inspired by Broadway's Spider-Man musical.

After 25 years in the business, Minogue is clearly thinking big. For Les Folies, the singer has announced 54 dates so far, including five nights at London's O2 arena. The production's heart-shaped stage – which incorporates one million moving parts, seven lifts, 30 water fountains and one, er, rain curtain – is "the best, most complex and most exceptional stage that has ever been built for a venue", according to a press release. While the water show has been developed by the team that designed installations at Las Vegas's Bellagio hotel and Disney's California Adventure theme parks, the "fly system" – which transports singers and dancers across the set – was modelled on the setup for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. This may not be a good thing.

The production is to feature 10 dancers, eight air acrobats, five live musicians and two background singers. These performers will share approximately 200 costumes. A crew of 120 people will transport the 45-ton set using 10 lorries. Fans can also buy tickets for the "splash zone", which could, we suspect, become a little damp. Hopefully towels will be provided.

"The reaction to [2010 album] Aphrodite has been absolutely incredible and has inspired me and my creative team to develop a new show that will take all of us on a euphoric journey of joy, excitement and glamour," Minogue said. Aphrodite, the singer's first LP since 2007's X, debuted at No 1

I was just looking at the tickets and what type of seats would be still available over here. Seems like this months going to be pretty tough for me due to medical bills and having to move out of my current apartment. I've certainly listened to her 00s records a lot, but I'm not usually interested in going to pop concerts of this kind. It's hard to decide whether to go or not.

I don't know, am I allowed to touch myself in the stands?

"There's another side to me most people don't get to see. I can be a total nerd," she said.

"I love to pull on casual clothes and play golf, and when I'm with my nephews I turn into this woman who rolls around on the floor, changing nappies and getting covered in poop."

But being an aunt doesn't alter Minogue's choice of outfits because she still feels like she's 21.

"I cannot believe I'm 42. Part of me feels like I'm still 21 and I always will be.

"I've never had a problem with being a sex symbol.

"I'm a woman, and it's a lovely compliment. It's a nice feeling that people like how you look.

"When I'm in the retirement home, I'll still be getting out my old costumes and feathers and putting on a show."

Kylie is like that for me. I don't even 'do' dance music really (and the only songs she's done that I like are "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and "Come Into My World"), but it's like every time I see her I go into Kylie fangirl mode .

I'd go even though I don't own any of her cds - I'd go just because it's KYLIE.

She's incredible live, but I've opted not to go this time. I've seen her 5 times before and respected her for having affordable ticket prices no matter how big she was, as the atmosphere in the arenas was always magic with entire families coming to see, and people who weren't fans walking in but becoming fans over the space of the concert.

This time the only decent prcied tickets are floor standing - and even though I'm a good 6 inches taller than Kylie herself, that doesn't cut the mustard if you're under 6ft tall as you just don't see anything. All the side seating tickets have DOUBLED in price compared to previous tours.

So... out goes the fun mixed atmosphere and in comes the cash, but unfortunately I expect it'll turn out like a Madonna concert - an arena full of 35 year old gay white men and a lot of corporate tickets taken by people who don't really give a shit.

the show does like it was expensive to produce so the price increase is probably just to cover cost

I suppose so, although I'm not sure if it's any more extravagant than her last few tours. She was like the female Michael Jackson in that she always cared so much about her fans, the ticket prices were kept affordable on purpose. In 2008 I paid £45 for a top tiered ticket. I even went twice. Now it's £85 for a good seat and £65 to stand.

Still beats Madonna's ludicrous prices that border on Streisand levels these days, and for a shitty show to boot. At least Kylie is a great live act.

my parents got me two tickets for her show in LA for $180 for my 30th, so about $90 a piece for decent seats which i don't think is that bad.. .i paid that much for decent but pretty high up in the stands for the Spice Girls. i think the quaility of the show is worth it. but if it wasn't for my parents doing that for me i wouldn't have been able to go so i totally understand.
