it's pretty much over for Akon

he releases arguably one of his best singles (Angel) and despite decent promotion it fails to make any impact at all

then he does a duet with a dead Micheal Jackson the biggest music star of all time and it barely makes the top 30

its over...

You all seem to forget that he is still involved with, Lady Ga Ga's career, in some way,(he produced some of her records and is one of her advisors.) He once said that because of her, he really does not have to work again, unless he wants to. So, I think he will be all right, even if IT IS pretty much over...

One of the smartiest moves by an "RnB" music artist in a long while, I really was not a great fan of Akon, he's a nice bloke, but his music did little for me, I like most "artist" of today a few tracks he's done...but can take or leave them, i.e. i would not spend my money buying a CD! wink

But I must say his signing of GaGa ... was a cool business move8-)

He'll never be broke. Isn't he responsible for some of Lady Gaga's success?

Lady Gaga is signed to a few different things, a big chunk goes to Akon's label Konlive. He was the one who got Interscope excited after L.A. Reid dropped her.

Doesn't L.A Reid have pink on his record label ? , if he does i can see the reason why he did not sign her Pink would feel upstaged i guess..lol

L.A., has been known for making, "Ass-hole" decisions. For instance, he did not want Pink to release, "Missundaztood", for fear that it would alienate Pink's fans. Not to mention the dumb shyte he did while at Mowtown. I am surprised that he has not managed to burn down, his current label.

It was for the best. She walked out of there with half of The Fame recorded and mastered, and found a company that actually knew how to market her.

I was reading an article about this and they said had Gaga stayed with L.A. Reid, she would be La Roux.

She can't lose. She signed to a 360 deal which means everyone is more invested in her too. She also spends her own money.

Yeah, for her first tour (The Fame Ball Tour)...she paid out of her own pocket and was in debt. Even The Monster Ball Tour (the first leg) she put so much $ into her show that she didn't make a profit. I read on Forbes that Gaga is estimated to make up to $100 million this year alone w/ her latest tour, merch., the upcoming album, her Polaroid deal, etc...

I think that figure is gross income/sales though, not after everything is paid for.

Either way, Akon is pretty much livin' lavish.

Yup. I saw his house on MTV's cribs and he's looks like he's living pretty well. All white furniture, his own gas station. lol

Exactly. Gaga outsold Akon on his own record label lightyears ago. And he still gets paid whenever she does.

What a shame. rolleyes Over, before I had any interest in listening to him in the first place, lol. I was done with Akon by the time I saw the footage of him throwing some guy off the stage disbelief .

His vocals make me wanna throw up. If he never came out with a song or sang another note again I'd be BEYOND happy.
