How do you post the video links? I have some to post

Here is an example. You take a Youtube link, and you put at each end of the link. This is how it should look.

[ youtube ] http://www.youtube.com/wa...FmCVQWRReM [ / youtube ]

But with no spaces anywhere in it.

You're correct on both nod

In fact, I remember reading where Chris Jasper has stated that he, Ernie, & Marvin, did background vocals as well, but never got credit for it...

Oh OK! nod I always thought he was anyways! cool

To Ron's credit, he should be credited with adding "bullshit" to "Fight the Power". According to what he told in an interview, Ernie had written the PC term, "nonsense". When Ernie asked why he sang "bullshit", Ron told him "because it's what people needed to hear." lol

I still think Ron don't get a lot of credit for being one of the greatest pop balladeers of all time, hell he's rarely mentioned as one of the greatest vocalists in rock music though he gets some recognition from soul music fans.

Timmy84 .... do have anything to add to this story i read about Jimi and the Isley Brothers?

The Isley Brothers were from Teaneck, and had enjoyed a huge hit in 1962 with "Twist and Shout." Their gospel-soaked performances made them favorites on the road, and Hendrix joined their road band early in 1964, after recording the epic "Testify," which featured his unbridled guitar playing. It didn't sell, and when the Isleys' tour hit Nashville later that year, Hendrix got off the bus and went back to working with Billy Cox.

cool

Yeah I got some information. Around 1964, Jimi Hendrix was really struggling when O'Kelly Isley discovered him as he was going shopping, I guess, for instruments or something. He saw Jimi at the bench and he asked why he was sitting there. Apparently Jimi had pawned his guitar for some reason (I forgot what) and O'Kelly decided to get the guitar he pawned back to him. O'Kelly then found out Jimi was homeless so he offered Jimi to stay at his family's home in Teaneck. That's how Ernie Isley, then around 12, got to know him real good. I believe the Isleys was the breaking ground for Jimi personally. He left them in the end of 1964 but returned with them in 1965 and played on "Move Over and Let Me Dance". Needless to say hadn't it not been for O'Kelly Isley, Jimi Hendrix probably wouldn't have gotten to where he eventually went.

Yeah it definitely needs to be told, I'm quite shocked there isn't one yet. People who don't know them well past the years (1969-1983) and Ronald's later periods have heard little of this but it needs to be told since their history covers most of the basis of rock and roll, soul and rhythm and blues to me.

Yeap unlike most artist their musical history tell the whole story of US from the 50's to present day, it's strange because you can be anywhere in the world and hear their music or an artist covering one of the classics.... even on TV in the UK commercials ads have Isley Brothers music playing in it and the kids just don't know?

There story would be a great film ...cool

The Isley Bros. is one of those acts that you CANNOT dislike. While I prefer the Temptations or Kool & The Gang (my fav R&B bands of all time) the Isley Bros. are pretty cool as well. They have too many albums lol and I think they didn't become a "serious studio band" until It's Out Thing, when they finally got some artistic freedom...

Their compilations "Isley Bros. Story Part.1 & 2" are insanely good and enjoyable...

I just want to post one of their very best ballads and perhaps, the "best oral song of all time" giggle cool

Thanks for the tip, i'll look into that one......

Another thing i've read online ..... and I hope Sir Timmy84 can help with the back ground info:

It's amusing to hear Ronald Isley singing, "all of the lonely people, where do we all come from" on the lovely Have You Ever Been Disappointed - nearly a year before the Beatles recorded Eleanor Rigby:-o , and also amusing to note that the Rolling Stones were, unknowingly, trying to emulate Jimi Hendrix licks in 1965 when they covered Don Covay's Mercy Mercy. Not all of it is great, but the Isley Brothers tracks, especially Move Over And Let Me Dance, show that Hendrix was pretty much already fully formed as a guitarist in 19658-)

Ernie Isley and Chris Jasper both released solo albums after Isley-Jasper-Isley broke up. On his website (goldcitymusic.com), Chris has released 7 albums since he went solo. Some are urban contemporary gospel and some secular, but all with the same musical feel.
