EWF, with Stevie Wonder, Maurice and Larry Dunn at performance 1/7/11

http://live.drjays.com/in...las-vegas/

There is a cool video of a montage of performances that nite....Maurice, does not sing, but is shown in short clip playing the Kalimba with the audience chanting.."Go Maurice"...and Stevie onstage singing "Shining star towards the end of the clip....cute to see Phil whispering the lyrics to Stevie as the verses to the song come up

One other thing.....

I had always felt that Stevie's "I Wish" owed alot in its intro to "Shining Star"...and according to a friend of mine who was at the event Stevie came right out and confirmed that he was heavily influenced by the Shining Star intro when he wrote I Wish....

I am just glad to see Maurice out and about and participating in EWF events, even if it is limited due to his health concerns....

Brings back great memories to see Maurice do his thing on the Kalimba.....

Not sure I want to wrap my brain around the fact that yes, it is their 40th anniversary....yes, I am feeling REAL old right about now too....

I am hoping that BECAUSE it is their 40th anniversary, maybe Maurice will make the effort (or at least be healthy enough to TRY) to attend more shows and possibly particpate....

But in the very least I would love him to be there if only to be able to accept the accolades and love from all the fans that appreciate what a wonderful and resonant catelog of music and positivity he has helped to create over the past 40 years..........

Doesn't he have Parkinson's? If so, then he doesn't have much control over that. Maurice does still participate in the new albums they release.

WOW! eek Thanks! EWF is one of my all-time favorite bands. This was a real treat. Ole Faithful Phil sings like he hasn't stopped singing since their prime. Maurice used to make that kalimba sound so magical. Oh what a night indeed!

They were so inspirational. Verdine still looks hyper as hell killing that bass. razz

yeah, he does have Parkinsons, and true, he has good days and bad....

but I notice that he made 2 appearances at EWF events recently....at a show they did on 9-3-10 a the Hollywod Bowl in LA...he came up on stage.....and this one on 1-7-11.....he had not appeared with EWF in the past 4 to 5 years, even though he was still on their recordings...

Stress, I know, impacts his condition, and so touring is out of the question, but just maybe he is making the effort because of the anniversary.....

Regardless, nice to see him and Larry....almost like old times.......
