Single Review: Nero - 'Me & You'

Y'know that time when you suddenly feel the urge to throw tables and chairs over and spill your drink over your head whilst shouting at the top of your lungs and stamping your feet into the floor when a certain song comes on in a club? BUT IN A GOOD WAY?

I had to restrain myself from doing that the minute I heard this musical masterpiece - finally the song I've been waiting for - a song that combines elements of dubstep channelled plentifully through D&B veins that retains an instant kick and something that really makes you want to dance. A true match made on the dance floor.

During 2010, particularly the latter half, the singles charts have surprisingly lead to more underground genres leaping out into the mainstream, and one of them was dubstep. Regular readers here will remember how much I loathed most of these songs - 'Katy On A Mission' was one of the biggest offenders, mainly because I didn't get why everyone liked it so much, it being nothing more than an amalgamation of some buzzing and girl with an annoying voice. I also found The Black Eyed Peas comeback below disappointing and thought that Far*East Movement should leave the western mainstream for good (although, their new single 'Rocketeer' with Ryan Tedder is verging on listenable).

Salvation makes an appearance on the horizon line in the form of Nero's 'Me & You'. Nero are a D&B/dubstep duo from London consisting of Dan Stephens and Joe Ray. A similar outfit to Chase & Status, they usually have Alana Watson on lead vocals for their songs, such as the one I'm turning my undivided attention to.

'Me & You' sounds like the birth-child of a Sonic The Hedgehog game and a caffeine-supercharged drum machine, and mixed somewhere in the same gene pool are some angry, zapping synths. Are you listening Katy B? This is how it should be done.
