Red Hot Chili Peppers & Sly Stone

I can't find my Blood Sugar Sex Magik CD, so I am asking you aficinados here. Did the Peppers give any credit to Sly & the Family Stone for the song "Funky Monks"?

I have been listening to a lot of Sly lately and I swear the verses of "Funky Monks" sound similar to "Let Me Have It All."

What do you think?

There is a tiny bit of similiarity in the song's, but even with that i am not to shocked. Since Sly was one of the Chili Pepper's biggest influence. They where also more inspired by the funk band's then rock/blues band's cool

Yeah, I know the Peppers were hugely influenced by Parliament Funkadelic and Sly & the Family Stone. I've have always felt that those bands and others were bigger influences on those guys than rock bands. However, I just thought these two songs were similar.

Thanks for your take on it.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
