I'm actually surprised that he picked SJDK, because they are deep. And I think posted this thread in the wrong forum.

lol you know some of these cats'll wait for Sharon and the kings to be done to be utterly bored by hearing the same playlist for over 20 years being performed again and again and again

No doubt ... but I'm glad because it'll give expose SJDK to a new audience.

I think they'll officially announce it today. Many Prince fans will be quite surprised .. no Mint Condition, no Larry Graham.

What's scarier is that these cats'll be like " who"?....
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's OK, they won't be asking "who" after the show ...

Man, lucky fuckers who get to see that show. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Wow. I Learned The Hard Way was easily one of the best albums of 2010. I'll be there on time!

I saw Sharon & the Dap Kings at Gay Pride festivities last year and was blown away. I literally walked in on them and didn't know who they were and was floored by the terrific music. Only found out tthe identity later. Ya'll who hear them are in for a real treat! Enjoy! I just saw one of their bass players, Hagar, play on Friday with another band. She was great! Looking forward to seeing her with the Dap Kings next week. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

The music experts have arrived on this thread to derail it!

She? You must be thinking of the wrong band, the Dap-Kings don't have a female bass player and certainly no one called Hagar.

No, I'm thinking of the right band. Hagar just finished touring with them.

Hagar is definitely female: http://www.myspace.com/ha...bassguitar

That must be a sub. I've done quite a few shows with SJDK and their main bass player, Gabe Roth (also their producer and owner of Daptone Records) always played each gig. But he moved to L.A. not too long ago, so it's possible that he does some of the local gigs or whenever Gabe can't make it. I'd think he would come out for the MSG show though. Right? That will be amazing. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Well, I guess we'll see on the 18th. I hope it's Hagar (no offense to your friend). The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

No offense taken, in fact, thanks for schooling me on this, I had no idea. But Gabe is the guy behind the Daptone sound, so there wouldn't be SJDK without him, and he's a fantastic band leader as well .. I'd be surprised if he's not doing that gig.
