I don't own any War albums, although I do own their 2 cd anthology set. They should remaster some of those albums.

This one is a stone cold classic. I grew up heavily on War as my father used to bump their stuff constantly in the crib.

Hey Nova, you should check out their albums All Day Music and Why Can't We Be Friends?.Lots of soul and funk can be found on those two recordings.

Also I know you love jazz like I do. So you may find Lee Oskar's{harmonica player for War} first two solo records Lee Oskar and Before The Rainincluding the title track which has some beautiful playing on it by Lee, of interest.

Additonally, I wish to say that out of all of the funk groups in the 70's.. War, IMO, may have been the most interesting and intriguing group.

This edition is the 25th anniversary remastered release that came out in '92.For the last year or so,Ive started being very picky and observant when choosing CDs ,making sure that Im getting the best master available.I own about 3k CDs and its a scary thought that eventually many will have to be replaced by newer remastered editions.I was about halfway thru Stevie Wonder's catalog when Motown started remastering and had to start over lol nuts

"I Got "All Day Music"&a Couple of there Greatest Hits.I Love this Jam."Galaxy" is my cut&I Don't blame Puffy for doing the Tango with J-Lo on that Cut.War like Mandril,EWF,P-Funk,Chamber Brothers,Mother's Finest,Sly&The Family Stone,Charles Wright&His Band had so many elements within there Sound&Styles that you couldn't put a Label on them.

OK, thanks for the info. But do you know if those albums are remastered?

EXACTLY! That's how I am too. I'm VERY picky when it comes to sound. As of right now I've even gotten rid of some cd's that I haven't replaced yet only because I know I'm going to get the remasters soon. And I get rid of the unremastered ones just to get rid of clutter before I replace them. biggrin

Yeah, I think Mandrill was the most underrated, and under-apreciated group back then. Of all the groups you mention I notice Mandrill is the one that gets no airplay at all out here on the West coast. Their sound is so all over the map, and skillfully done, it's just not funny. It's almost like there was nothing they couldn't play. They were so badass PFUNK opened for them.

good but especially I love ""the world is a ghetto"
& ""why can´t we be friends".
the song ""Low Rider"is on that 1.
I had tickets 2 go 2 see them in Stockholm in 1994

I'm like this too. Those War CDs that I mentioned are not remastered btw. I'll check the next time I go to the CD store though. Sometimes you'll be surprised to see that one of your favorites recordings upgraded and remastered.

Amazingly,my favorite War song is one that came long after their heyday...the 1982 jam "Outlaw".

In fact, their entire 'Outlaw' album is one of their best albums.

Yea...Outlaw is a very good album. I think it ranks well with their 70's work. "Outlaw" is one of my very favorites by them as well.

OH!!! I loved the video for this song. The video depicts the lyrical content of the song. It shows footage of one of the members of War leading a police chase on a motorcycle and he has this beautiful woman on the motorcycle with him. Then the video cuts to all of the members of War on stage performing the song. At the end the police finally catches him and his woman is on the motorcycle crying. Do you remember this one Dave? I used to love watching this video in 82'.

I have a "WAR" story...

I was working in San Diego, where I lived at the time, and WAR was gonna play that night at a small venue called "The Baccannal" (sp?)... I scored some tickets, and me and a buddy went 2 have a good time.

The show was great, they played all their hits and we were sitting on the 1st riser, allowing us 2 see the show (in this small club atmosphere) without any interference.

So Lonnie Jordan (lead singer... I think he's still doin' it!) says he's gonna sing "Why Can't We Be Friends" and wanted audience participation. I got up and made a bee-line straight 4 the stage area...

He went from person 2 person on the chorus and then the mic was facing me, I sang my part... he paused, extended his hand out and pulled me onstage. Handed me the mic and left the stage. I continued singin', totally jammin' with the band and Lonnie comes back onstage with another mic.

We started singing off eachother adlibbing, workin' the crowd etc... It was fantastic! Afterwards, the crowd roared with approval, I was "high-fiving" everyone all the way back 2 my seat... it was a thrill.

Afterwards, we went backstage after security recognized me as the one from the song... Lonnie and all the boys were so cool! We chatted 4 'bout 2 hours about everything. From his grandchildren, 2 me possibly hookin' up with them!!! I gave them my name and number, but I moved shortly thereafter...with no forwarding address. sad

I was on cloud 9 driving home... music
