There isn't a single female artist with the ability of Teena Marie. Her jazz cuts are my personal favorites. Who else but Teena could do a jazz ballad in the vein of Jimmy Scott (Sunny Skies) on the same album as a rock track featuring Stevie Ray Vaughan (You So Heavy)?? Not only that, but she wrote, produced, arranged and performed 99% of all of her material too! I've never heard a better female vocalist in any genre.

The reason the song from Top Gun sucks is because Giorgio Moroder produced it, not Teena. She had a golden touch.

And throw Battucada Suite and Emerald City in there, too? Crazy brilliant.

Lovely song. She has a Prince reference in this one, I think. ("Pull a former Prince.")

I shoulda bought one of those Black Rain T-shirts off ebay. Someone sold boxes of these shirts, it seems, after the Ladonna album that was to have been called Black Rain was sold to Cash Money and then developed into Ladonna. (I hope I'm not too spewing at the mouth all of the time. I just don't know any Lady T heads in my current area to process this one with. I am finding it to be a bumpy ride.)

It came to my attention that the original thread was removed because of a troll. I know many people put some heartfelt messages on that thread. It's is beyond what I can do right now to get the original back and this certainly is not meant to replace it, I can't even sticky it as I do not mod this forum, but I hope people can continue the discussion here while I see what can be done with the original thread.

This is unbelievable. The troll was dealt with immediately and the lovefest continued. I personally reported the thread to a mod for it to be a STICKY and nothing more than that. To delete a whole thread and not the individual comments is just WRONG.

Thx Mars for creating this thread. It's still unfortunate that the other one was deleted, but i'm glad that there's another thread dedicated to Lady T. She deserves it.

These past few months, even before she died, I've been playing this non-stop. Definitely one of my fave ballads of hers.

Peace and Love to my sweet angel. Saw her a year and half ago and she blew the roof off at BB Kings in NY. I'm glad I got to see her 3 times. She always kicked ass. RIP.

I'm still working on it. I hope I can bring back the other so people can see the progression and keep this one since the other is so long.

I appreciate the thanks, but I'm not doing it for thanks. I just want people to know we hear them and are doing what we can.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

For all U doubters...listen to "Romantica" or "Baby I'm Your Fiend"....she has the voice of an Angel...if U can't hear the passion or love in her voice...I feel for U that U can't feel the voice that has touched the hearts of many...

Im not good with links, but I think the latest disc, Congo Square was one of her best. 16 tracks of fire! Never got the respect it deserved. Most listeners concentrated on the Faith track. How can an artist drop a quality cd that late in her career and not get noticed? I understand those that rely on radio, but what about the intelligent listener?

Miss u, Teena.

It's a good album. My favorite tracks are "The Pressure" (which should have been a single) and "You Baby".

I agree.

My prayers go out to Teena's daughter, Alia Rose and her entire family. Teena was a spiritual person and her spirit will live on and watch over us. Her music will keep her close to her family, friends, and all her fans who love her. Teena was an idol of mine. I am sad and mad that she had to leave us. She will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

I was just going through my Teena collection on iPod and I came across this gem once again from the Lady T album (1980). So amazing how she channeled alittle bit of Chaka and mixed it with her own groove. Love this mellow cut from this great album...

There are few true artists doing real music and poetry. Teena was one of the last. It has almost come to the point that Prince is the only one left.

The void that she leaves will never be fully acknowledged by this society in which music has become a salacious product that requires no talent, passion, or spirit.

Fly on, Lady T...
