I agree. It's mostly 50s rock n' roll crossed with some very early soul/R&B. But his last album sounded like a 60s cover album from front to back. I was expecting something different from the early press it was getting, but I was also expecting something awful after reading this thread. I would have liked something a little different, but I don't think it's awful.

It should be noted that people spent yrs. wanting Prince to "go back to his old sound". YEARS! When he did and put out "20ten" those same people wanted to bash the joint. So if Saadiq is slow to return to the sound that we love the most then I understand. Singles aren't what they used to be."Radio" is one tune out of 10 on a album. I remember reading Brownmark saying right after he got the gig w/ Prince. P played him a new tune he had written for his new album...probably the 1st one written..entitled "Jack u off". Brownmark's response was like ....eeehhhhh....okay. Yet "Jack u off" is probably the least remembered tune next to "Ronnie talk..." off of "Contorversy". "Radio" may be the same way.

I actually think it's pretty good, but it's too generic and just lacks 'something' that makes it distinctive. When Prince was doing his new wave/rockabilly stuff, he had the guitars and the synths in there, which gave it a distinctive sound, so it didn't seem like it was just a simple, straightforward pastiche. And, similarly, even with a fairly straight-down-the-line rock 'n' roll song like Peach, he puts the minor chord in there, and adds the turnaround, to give it some little bit of flavour and stop it sounding too generic. That distinctive 'something' is what's lacking here, for my money, even though I like the song overall, and am interested to hear what's going to be on the new album.

I actually thought that Instant Vintage, Ray Ray and The Way I See It were great records, but none of them (including his production work and numerous collaborations post-1997) were earthshattering to the point of being deemed as extraordinary. His production values have become quite redundant and he hasn't really changed it up. His involvement on D'Angelo's Voodoo held up, but it seemed like he was just coasting after all of that. And let's not forget Lucy Pearl... But I can't deny this man's work ethnic and legacy. His solo career has been quite interesting, but I will always miss Tony Toni Tone.

Your right about that. My favorite solo song by him was " Ask Of You". My brief conversation with him turn to the worse when I asked him about reuniting with TTT. I don't know what happen with them. But it most of been a messy departure. I'm not a fan of his anymore after that incident...

Don't know if it was messy but the relationship was strained. Some of the tracks for

House of Music were recorded seperately(Dwayne and Rafael). I remember Vibe doing

a story on them during that time and pretty much stated there was a little tension.

I remember that story from Vibe Magazine. There was so much drama going on amongst the group at that point of recording House of Music. I don't think the bitterness with Raphael and the rest of the guys has cleared completely, but they did perform a couple of times, sometime after the release of that album.

I agree. He's so caught up in the 60s revival vibe that it's no longer "cool". We've been bombarded with this for the last few years by Amy Winehouse, Solange, and now R. Kelly and Eric Benet have jumped on board and now it's just overkill.

Yeah, they reunited for a few songs on his Live at the House of Blues CD.

I guess yall can tell what my favorite album of thiers was
