Acoustic versions!

Do you prefer them? I was just listening to Mario's Let Me Love You and the acoustic version is better than the original. Also have an acoustic of Roxette's Listen To Your Heart which is back with piano. Nice! One of my all time faves is Clapton's Layla from MTV, the live version is much better than the original.

I like the acoustic Layla from the Unplugged album, but for me it doesnt top the original as it doesn't had the wonderful piano coda at the end.

That said, I love acoustic versions of alot of songs...you get a totally different vibe from them. Wish Prince would give us some acoustic renditions!

Sometimes I do prefer the acoustic versions and sometimes I prefer the originals. I quite like Kiss' Unplugged album. Kiss are not exactly known for subtlety but their songs hold up very nicely as acoustic performances.

He's done a lot of his songs acoustically on piano and guitar over the years. You never saw his MTV special in support of Musicology? Half the show was acoustic and in that section he played Cream, Rufus & Chaka Khan's' Sweet Thing and Kool & The Gang's Funky Stuff. Anytime he plays Sometimes It Snows In April he does it that way too.

I hate acoustic versions of almost everything. I find them totally unimaginative. Especially when they play only the chords and the riffs and hooks get lost

i ADORE accoustic versions! Its just a whole new song and emotion in the song. A lot of the time, the accoustic is better than the studio version. like bruno mars. i don't like any of his songs. they are all so typical, poppy and overproduced. but i heard an accoustic version of "granade" and whatever that other single of his is, and it was FANTASTIC! i fell in love with it. And Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga, too. i don't like their music, but when broken down to the raw essentials, its beautiful.

Erkyah Badu is the QUEEN of accoustics. she makes me fall in love with her every time she performs.

OH! i almost forgot! On wednesday at MSG, prince performed this accoustic verssion of "little red corvette" that ruined music for me for the rest of my life. nothing is ever going to top what he did. o.m.g. that song was always awesome, but the way he broke it down and slowed it down...i can't even describe it.

Lightofart shows he or she has now idea about music.

Its not like acoustic music is always better then electrical music, but acoustic sure isnt automatically less then electrical music.

Michael Jackson or Rick James have never been able to approach the intimate tenderness of songs like Riverman by Nick Drake or How can we hang on to a dream by Tim Hardin.

And even in the afro-american field Michael Jackson was an underachiever: Solomon Burkes song Please don't give up on me is far better then anything MJ released since his thriller album.

I keep wondering why i should keep defending artists i don't feel for......keep your MJ-crap to yourself, grow up please.

first of all, where was Michael mentioned in this thread...at all?

secondly, apparently you don't know Michael's music at ALL or else you would never say such a thing about "romantic tenderness". Ever heard "someone put your hand out", "for all time", "fall again", "beautiful girl", "heaven can wait", " butterflies", "break of dawn", "Liberian girl". apparently not. all GORGEOUS love ballads with beautiful emotion and imagery. all post thriller, mind you. and "don't give up on me" is a beautiful song, but imo, michael's songs, musically, and ESPECIALLY vocally, are way up on soloman. But you're trying to compare soul music with Michael, who crosses several musical lines, but if needed to be put in one category, i suppose would be "pop". that's like comparing country to r&b. they are both great in their own right, but aren't even similar. you can't really fairly compare apples and oranges.

If you're calling Michael's music "crap", obviously YOU are the one who who doesn't know anything about music because regardless of what you think, he he regarded as a GENIUS of music and entertainment. "grow up please."? really? from the way you are rudely and judgementally speaking to people without any good reasoning, YOU are the one that needs to grow up and learn some respect for people and their opinions. last time i checked, you're not God.

Lol how did michael come into this? It has nothing to do with me not liking unplugged versions of songs. Stop reading into things, you're acting like a teenager wink

Also, you've sadly missed the point of this thread. This is not about electronic vs acoustic music. This thread is about whether you enjoy unplugged versions of produced songs. Get it? smile

Anyway rolleyes

Its funny that you posted this thread, because I realized recently that I prefer/play these versions more than the produced ones...

It depends on the artist, really. Some are better heard in a produced setting, some are better heard in an intimate setting,,and there're the ones who sound interesting all around.

For me, it's all good. I like to hear as many different versions of songs that I like as are available. A good acoustic version of a song can bring out harmonics that you never noticed initially.
