Jazmine Sullivan Announces Departure From Music

jazmine e1282745406583 Quote Of The Day: Jazmine Sullivan Announces Departure From Music

Jazmine Sullivan made a shocking announcement on

Twitter today. The R&B singer revealed to thousands of fans that she intends to take a break from music, placing her budding career on hold. Check out what she had to say below:

jazminetweet Quote Of The Day: Jazmine Sullivan Announces Departure From Music

This is quite surprising to say the least. Sullivan’s ‘Love Me Back’ LP was one of the best releases of 2010, receiving enormous critical acclaim. As we do not know what is occurring behind the scenes all we can do is hope that she finds her way back to the industry. A talent like her will be sorely missed.

If she needs to take a step away and regroup, good for her in making the move.

This is why if someone is going to get in the business, think about whatever it is they're getting themselves into before deciding midway through to take a break. Lauryn Hill took a break, remember?

Whatever it is, I do wish her well though. Just hope the break ain't so extended she simply drops out of sight. I always shake my head whenever I hear these things. True, sometimes the business can be rough but then again, sometimes people can make it tougher on themselves.

i think we should give her a break. none of us are in the industry. music/entertainment...none of us knows what its like. the presure that must be felt to make good music, make this person happy, that person happy, making deadlines, tours, appearances...you're lack of self or privacy. Not only that, but not knowing who loves you for you or is just using you...not beig able to trust people and their intentions towards you. Its got to be tough, very lonely and very scary. Why do you think SO many people in the entertainment industry are dope fiends or alcoholics? its got to be a rough life. I don't think anyone TRULY knows what they are getting themselves into when they step into the spotlight.

so if she needs to step away, good for her for realizing it now before she got sucked in too deep.

she's having a bad day, a bad week, a bad month or something. she needs to step away from the internet.

if it's something more than that, something psychologically deeper, then good luck to her, but she needs to step away from the internet.

She's lucky that she wasn't recording in the 50's and 60's, when a lot of the labels were run by the mafia like Brunswick Records or even thug run labels today like Rap-A-Lot. She'd have no say on when to take a break.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

One doesn't have to stay in the same career for their entire life. Not her, not Lauryn Hill, not anyone. And people can "think about" the career they have chosen quite thoroughly and still opt to make a change. People's desires, opportunities, and paths do change. My partner decided after a decade of practicing medicine to get an mba and is now in venture capital. He made a change that he wanted to make and is happier. Everyone who has the opportunity is entitled to do so, even famous folk.

Oh no I agree. I'm just saying... if you're dealt with some blows, some have to find another way to get around it. It just sounded like as if she's saying "fuck it".

This is from her debut:

This is her latest song:

This is her singing 'Home' from the 'The Wiz' at 11 years old

sad She's actually extremely good, so I hope she was just having a bad day and used Twitter to vent. Sometimes u just have to say something out loud or write it down to reflect on it and come up with a solid decision. Her voice is like melted butter; she needs to stay in the music field at least - Broadway maybe?

I see you Ms Trina! And I agree with you. Jazmine is talented, but something about her irks me. I don't like her voice for one and secondly, I don't see her having a big career. I am not being mean, just realistic. She doesn't have the "look" that a female singer needs to be a megastar. If this was the 70s or even to an extent, the 80s, she could get by, but not now.

Jazmine is talented but it's obvious she's being pushed by her label to be MJB pt. 2. Maybe, that's something she doesn't want shrug or maybe she's mad that her album flopped. Idk lol

Seriously? This song was hot end of 2010:

Like, DJs actually playing it here. Kids making songs over her "Impeach The President/Affirmative Action" beat.

In the video so far I peeped Missy, Pete Rock, Grap Luva, Doug E Fresh and Pepa.

Her voice is sounding worn already. But that performance of "Home" is ridiculous. Seriously one of the best singing performances ever.

Good for her.

Life is too short to be wasting on pleasing folks and getting emotionally dry in the process. I'd hate to see her go but if she's not happy doing this, it only reflect poorly on her work and THAT I really wouldn't want to see.
