Beat It vs La Isla Bonita.

Ok, a good battle here, MJ's Beat It Vs Madonna's La Isla Bonita. I pick Madonna because her song is more complex, more artistic. Beat It is a classic, but for that we shoud really thank Eddie Van Halen.

La Isla Bonita was offered to Mike, but he turned it down. So Madonna wound up with it somehow.

That's right. It's all because of Van Halen. MJ writing the song himself and providing amazing vocals have nothing to do with "Beat It" being a classic. Please.

Anyway, I choose "La Isla Bonita". I prefer MJ to Madonna anyday, but "Beat It" has never been one of my faves from MJ. I listen to it maybe twice a year. "La Isla Bonita" on the other hand I love. Love the latin flavor and lyrics.

And yes "La Isla Bonita" was actually intended for MJ but he turned it down. Madonna ended up recording it instead and adding some lyrics to it. I'm glad Michael turned it down because I can't see him seeing that song anyway. Madonna was much better suited for it.

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Question: Why did you pick these two songs? Based on what? The fact that they are both pop songs? Why not Billie Jean v. Like a Virgin? I think that they share more in common musically. Were they both competing for the #1 spot on the charts? Are they neck in neck in single sales? Are they two songs you just heard back to back on your itunes shuffle?

I would love to know if you don't mind.

I love both like crazy, and I'm a huge fan of Madonna and MJ, MJ more cause he's in a class of his own from everyone. I remember knowing Beat It longer and liking it right away, but La Isla Bonita GRABBED me musically and I get excited when I hear it, though I also believe that has to do with it being written with MJ in mind smile I would get an mj vibe somehow even before I found out about this fact. And I always thought Beat It sounds better live than on record though it's a great song.

My vote goes to Beat It.

Come on now, La Isia Bonita is the very wrong Madonna song to use in this match-up.

LaToya was better fit for La Isla Bonita than Michael.

Beat It headbang it's one of Michael's hardest jams.

"La Isla Bonita" is pleasant and sweet, but I don't even consider it one of Madonna's best songs.

Both classics, but "Beat It" by a while. It's one of MJ's signature tunes, whereas "La Isla Bonita" is a rather minor single in Madonna's long history.

"Beat it" is the best track off 'thriller'.

La Isla Bonita - is real nice though.

Madonna has ruined all her songs in the past couple of years. It makes me cry how bad she has gotten at performing.

Oh and I pick La Isla Bonita. I never got into Beat It even at the height of my MJ obsession.

La Isla for me.

Lets compare next I Just Can't Stop Loving You vs. Live to Tell.

The biggest male 80s superstar's premiere single debuted as the lead track from his follow up to his 20-something-platinum hit album "Thriller" ...

vs the biggest female pop star of the age's (technical) first single release from her follow up to her own megaplatium "Like A Virgin" LP.

Basically these singles were both released as the 'official' lead songs from the anticipated followup albums, which were each on the heels of the HUGE blockbusters which had made each the biggest star they would ever become.

I vote...and this is TOUGH....

I can't stop loving you. By a HAIR. cool

Yeah exactly...

Anyway, "Beat It" is better than "La Isla Bonita" and I guess so is "Liberian Girl" but that's maybe because I heard "La Isla Bonita" so many more times than "Liberian Girl" so I might be tired of it. For what it's worth when I was listening to all three songs when I was in primary school (lol) I prefered "La Isla Bonita" by far.

"Beat It" is also better than "Burning Up" although I would say the extended remix of "Burning Up" is better than "Beat It". But "Live To Tell" is definitely better than "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" although all 6 songs are absolutely classic

Regarding the "Sticky And Sweet Tour" version of "La Isla Bonita" is OK but the song doesn't really fit the Balkanic/Gypsy style of Gogo Bordello, she would be much better off just singing the Gogo Bordello song by itself. I still enjoyed it though, but if she was going for the Goran Bregovic sound she was waaaayyyy off the mark
