I was at the Prince concert yesterday and overheard these 2 guys behind me saying Prince wins over MJ no question, musically. I hope they simply mean Prince can play instruments better than MJ because well, that's the only thing he can do better than Michael in my opinion. I'm a huge Prince fan, but in all honesty, MJ is second to no one. I've seen the way people get mesmerized by MJ and his performances, and his music and I'm not sure how people can still turn around and disrespect him, when they can't look away. Prince is more "profound" in the sense where the songs he writes is "deeper" but I think its not that MJ can't write deep songs, that's just not his style. Michael songs are very catchy which gives the illusion that they are simple, he uses a lot of dummy lyrics. But the beat and syntax of his songs are very complex. He turns something complex into something simple, in order to create a song that will communicate to people all around the world. And, yes, commercial success is a by-product of that but by no means does that mean that MJ is not a musical genius. Why can't people accept the fact that JUST MAYBE, someone who has many number 1 hits, international appeal and has many a devoted fan base, means that he is actually the best? Maybe there are too many lady gagas and justin biebers in the world for people to keep an open mind, but remember MJ came before all of that, he created the idea of a pop sensation. The stigma of the talentless, commercial, processed pop star came AFTER Michael Jackson because of all his imitators. The only reason why one should look badly upon Michael Jackson is if you're mad at him for all the crappy pop music that came from imitators there after. I think its funny, those people who are too cynical and jaded to see the truth, they pride thereselves in their musical taste, underground obscure artists that are supposedly the best ever but no ones else seems to think so. And another thing that is really strange is that for some reason, everyone disregarded his music after the thriller album. If you really listened you would find that Bad and dangerous are actually his best works. And ever wonder why no one really covers MJ music? I mean who in their right mind would do a cover of 'In the closet' or 'give in to me' or 'pyt'? Why wouldn't anyone touch an MJ song? Because he owns it. When he sings a song, everyone for centuries will know that they can't touch it because it would be very embarassing to try. I honestly couldn't say that Prince is a better songwriter than MJ. It depends on what you look for in a song. MJ wrote singlehandedly: dont stop till you get enough, working day and night, wanna be starting something, billie jean, beat it, the way you make me feel, liberian girl (which tupac used the beat to for his song letter 2 my unborn) , dirty diana, smooth criminal, we are the world ( You know its really wasn't co-written by lionel richie at all when you watch all the interviews), heal the world, black or white, give in to me, who is it, blood on the dance floor, night time lover, muscles, and those are to name a few of my favorites. Michael sings and dances better than Prince. And Prince is better on instruments. Prince has written way more released material than MJ but on whether who is the better songwriter that really depends on who you are talking to. Whether it is melodys or instrumentation that you are big on. I think I'm personally bigger on melodys because as MJ said 'melodys were already written in the stars, you just have to pluck them down.'

Yeah, thanks for pointing it out. I missed it cause I haven´t been here that much lately. Excellent post. BTW, we all know that Mike couldn´t play an instrument greatly, but I wonder if he could, hadn´t all his time been taken away by performing. I wonder if would learn to play an instrument, if he wasn´t a child superstar and had a time for it living a normal childhood.

Discovery cancels Michael Jackson autopsy TV show

By Bob Tourtellotte

LOS ANGELES | Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:05pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Discovery television network on Friday said it canceled plans to air a reenactment of the autopsy on Michael Jackson's body, citing an upcoming court hearing and concern by the late pop star's estate.

The show, "Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson," had been set to air in several countries of western Europe and in the United Kingdom on January 13.

"Given the commencement of legal proceedings beginning next week, and at the request of Michael Jackson's estate, the scheduled broadcast of the medical documentary related to Michael Jackson's official autopsy has been postponed indefinitely," Discovery Networks International said in a statement.

A Discovery spokesman declined comment beyond the statement.

The "Thriller" singer died suddenly of a prescription drug overdose on June 25, 2009, age 50, only weeks before beginning a series of comeback concerts. An autopsy by Los Angeles officials showed Jackson died chiefly of an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol that he used as a sleep aid.

Discovery's show, which was not scheduled to air in the United States, was an unofficial, fictional account of what the autopsy must have been like and its results.

But Jackson fans worldwide protested in an online petition launched earlier this month, and the co-executors of his estate sent a letter this week to Discovery Networks calling the program "insensitive" and "in shockingly bad taste."

A print advertisement for the program shows a body covered by a sheet, with one hand poking out wearing the singer's well-known sequined glove.

"On behalf of Michael's family, fans, common sense and decency, we urge you to reconsider and cancel this program," co-executors John McClain and John Branca wrote in the letter.

An estate spokesman was not immediately available to comment.

Jackson's physician at the time of his death, Dr. Conrad Murray, has admitted giving the singer propofol, which is often used in surgery, and Murray has been charged by authorities with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death.

Murray has pleaded not guilty, and a preliminary hearing to determine if enough evidence exists to make him stand trial begins in Los Angeles on January 4.

this was posted on TMZ

A rep for John Branca and John McClain tells TMZ, "The co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson are pleased that Discovery Channel made the correct decision in choosing to cancel this exploitative program."

The co-executors went on to say they feel Michael's fans played a large role in Discovery's decision, saying, "While Discovery cited legal proceedings and our request as the reasons for its decision, none of this would have happened had it not been for the incredible passion displayed by countless Michael Jackson fans worldwide who knew they stood as one and that their voices could not be ignored."

As for any future plans to air the show, Branca and McClain said, "We are hopeful that this show will never run in any market in the future."

I signed a petition to stop this from airing. It totally disgusts me that they would have even considered it.

I heard about this. eek Some people just dont have no respect for the dead or decentcy. disbelief And plus, what makes his autopsy any different to the point that they want to "reenact" it and show it on national television? eek Its just sick if you ask me.

I was glad when I read this. I'm so tired of all these ridiculous TV programs (pre- and post-death). And of all the networks, the Discovery Channel decides to air this? It's a poor attempt at gaining ratings.... and don't EVEN get me started on the promotional pic of a body under a white sheet wearing a glove.

This was on one of my VHS tapes where I recorded everything MJ related lol VH1 was the business back then

People are always saying the Motown 25 performance was the first time the brothers performed together in 8 years but you and I know that ain't true

they performed together on the Midnight Special and Jermaine made a guest spot on the one of the shows during the Destiny Tour nod

I grew up during the Thriller era, that album was everywhere! A group of us neighborhood kids memorized the Thriller video, we used to perform it every night in the street to the audio of the video I recorded on my ghetto blaster!
Every day there was something in the newspapers about Michael, his songs were constantly on the radio. I remember tuning into a French radio show just so I could hear one of the first plays of State Of Shock!
The Thriller campaign truly was international.

The funny thing about is that there was so little hype before and just after the album was released. Infact initial record sales were quite slow.
