Aretha Franklin seriously ill according to sources

http://www.washingtonpost...36_pf.html

Prayer vigil held for ailing Aretha Franklin The Associated Press Wednesday, December 1, 2010; 9:45 PM DETROIT -- A community prayer vigil has been held in Detroit for Aretha Franklin, a day before organizers say the singing legend is to undergo a medical procedure. City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson and others gathered downtown Wednesday to pray for Franklin. Last month, she announced she was canceling all concert dates and personal appearances through May on the orders of her doctors. Franklin wasn't at the vigil, but in a statement she thanked the City Council, saying "all prayers are good." A news release announcing the vigil says Franklin's medical procedure is scheduled for Thursday. A message seeking comment was left with Franklin's publicist, Tracey Jordan.

What illness does she have? I just keep hearing about her being sick. There's no specific info.

This really doesn't sound good. Things haven't been going great for her since the summer of this year, health-wise. We can't afford to lose The Queen right now. Not now! sad I'll definitely be keeping her in my prayers.

I hear you! This reminds me of when there were prayer vigils being held for Barry White and Luther Vandross back in early 2003. We all know what happened after that...one shocking lost after another. Just sad news!

The only thing about this type of report is; I've been hearing about Aretha being "seriously" ill since about 2004 or so. I want to believe this is just more of the same "gloom & doom" reporting, like everytime Elizabeth Taylor is "rushed" to the hospital every couple of years. That's what I WANT to believe. Though while she's still only 68, all that weight can not be healthy for her. So I realize; any kind of serious illness is likely. But like everyone, I'm not ready to be saying goodbye to The Queen.

May she be well soon.

Me either. I pray for her to really pull through. sad

Weird thing is her people hasn't let it known just what it is she has that is ailing her right now. It's speculated it could be diabetes.

@PDogz, I agree about "we've heard this before" but I don't think in 2004, there was a prayer vigil for her. We know she was at a hospital for a bad case of food poisoning though at the time.

That would be my guess. Sadly, I lost my sister to diabetes many years ago, when she was only 38 (...she was also a big girl). So I realize the possibility.

I hear ya Timmy. The whole "prayer vigil" thing doesn't sound promising. Neither does having canceled all her concert dates through next year.

I wish I had the power to make people grow younger, instead of older; and healthier, instead of with complications. I wish I had that power, instead of feeling powerless in this regard.

Prey for Ms Retha.

That's exactly what I was reminded of. And thing was James' death was so sudden, it went from "canceling dates due to pneumonia" and then a few seconds later, "James Brown has died".

I remember that very, very well. I woke up Christmas morning 2006, went to the Internet, learned that James Brown had passed away, went back to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and didn't get back up until late afternoon.

I remember that day well. Plus, it was the start of about a 6 month run of unfortunate events for me. For me, the first half of 2007 sucked out loud! Hoping this won't be going the same way.

YES!

Here's another ironic thing that connects Aretha's situation with James: Aretha held her Thanksgiving dinner last week, while James was doing the humanitarian thing for Christmas.

Yeah James Brown's death really struck a chord with me. That was one depressing Christmas day! I'll never forget it myself. I too had went to the internet and learned that James Brown had passed away and I was speechless. The media just ate it up and the radio was playing his music all day from the morning all the way to the day after Christmas.
