Janet's tour starts in Singapore 7th Feb 2011

12/28/10

The fans have chosen the second city to be announced for Janet Jackson’s largest ever world tour celebrating for the first time the Icon's 35 number one hits in 35 global cities. An overwhelming amount of fans submitted suggestions to www.janetjackson.com to select the sites of her new tour. The second winning city is Singapore. The Singapore performance will take place at Singapore Indoor Stadium on February 7th making it the first city on Janet’s JANET JACKSON Number Ones, Up Close and Personal tour.

This tour will differ from her previous concert schedules in that she will perform music exclusively from her chart topping CD NUMBER ONES. There will also be a focus on venues that will allow Janet to be up close and personal in a much more intimate setting. This show is JANET more revealed, more intimate, and more personal than ever before. Don’t look for special effects. Just look at Janet. Tickets will go on sale January 7th.

Janet has expressed her excitement for the upcoming performance in Singapore by stating,

“I’ve seen the world, been to many places smile. . . the one thing missing was you. We’ll be together in Singapore on February 7th and I can’t wait to sing, dance, and be up close and personal with all of you. Your votes are helping me decide where to bring this very intimate, very different show. It’s not about effects, it’s not an extravaganza, it’s not about being as big as in the past. This one is all about you and me. I love you Singapore. Let’s go!”

Janet has also selected the first fan winner of the contest in voting for the cities. The winner will be announced on www.JanetJackson.com and they will receive an autographed copy of NUMBER ONES and an autographed copy of her upcoming book "True You" (on stands February 8th). In each of the 35 cities Janet will dedicate one of her number one songs to the city and she will also recognize 20 young people whose lives and work have enriched their communities in a major way. If you wish to submit someone you know in one of the selected cities please visit www.janetjackson.com.

Janet currently stars in Tyler Perry's successful and critically acclaimed motion picture, "For Colored Girls." Janet recently achieved number one iTunes status with her performance of "Nothing," written and produced by her in association with Johnta Austin, Bryan-Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri for the film "Why Did I Get Married Too?" for which she also starred. The tune is currently an awards contender as best song in a motion picture.

Her upcoming book "True You" is being published by Karen Hunter Publishing, an imprint of Gallery Books at Simon & Schuster will be in stores on February 8th. Janet's first book will reveal her unique, insider's perspective on dieting and exercise-from her past, present and future-with help from her personal nutritionist, David Allen. True You chronicles Janet's lifelong struggles with weight and self-esteem. The book is a self-help/esteem book where Janet will use anecdotes from her real life to illustrate the power of self-esteem and how she struggles and her continued growth as an artist and a woman.

Both Singapore and Hong Kong's venues aren't what I consider "intimate and personal"...

I also don't understand the "Don't look for special effects" part. Bitch, don't nobody want to see JANET JACKSON perform without her pyrotechnics. yawn Now if it's a stripped down, MTV Unplugged type of show then there should be less choreography, the focus should be on the musical arrangements and she should consider utilizing her voice this time around (Which I highly doubt but still ...). To be honest, it would be a hot boiling mess to see her dance and lip in an "intimate and personal" setting with no pyrotechnics or production. I'm already nervous about this...

Maybe she's calling these venues "intimate and personal" because they only seat 6,000-8,000 fans. It could also be a ploy that maybe she thought that she couldn't sell out large venues-20,000+. I really don't think anyone wants to see Janet without pyrotechnics or production, because that's what they expect of her. IMO, it would be a HUGE mistake to try and do a stripped-down Unplugged type of show, because the focus would be on her voice and she doesn't have the voice for that type of thing.

I agree! This is why I'm nervous about it. BTW, both venues hold 8K and more. The majority of Janet's RWU tour shows had this many attendees and I wouldn't call that "intimate and personal". To be honest, NOBODY wants to see Janet Jackson in a up-close and personal type of show. NOBODY wants to see Janet perched on a stool cooing for dear life. As a performer she fully depends on her dancing and the production of the show. So I don't understand why she would take away the production. It's lame. It will only draw focus on her flaws.

I think it's too soon to tell exactly what the show will be like, but if anyone saw the Youtube clips from the private performance she did for some company a few months ago, then you know that show wasn't exactly as grand as her usual tours are, but still full of energy nonetheless. This new tour will probably be on that wavelength.

I hope that the tour is not like the Essence music festival. That show was pretty boring campared to others that I have seen from her. From the clips that I saw, Janet didn't dance much and "prowled" or walked the stage more than anything. I've noticed that in all of her recent performances.

This is true. She did this all through the American Idol performance and many others confused

Idk if I want to see her on this tour confused Makes me wish I was old enough to see her in her prime.

Her private show really was energetic. Here are some clips...

The camera work is kind of shaky, but you can get the point.

To me, energetic Janet would have to just lose ALL inhibitions and let loose (Rhythm Nation tour, Janet tour, Velvet Rope tour, even All for You)... seems she's more laid back nowadays. Plus Gil's choreography is LAZY!

I don't consider those clips energetic either. Especially when compared to her RWU tour which was just 2 years ago. These days she's just going through moves or pacing back and forth on stage. Dreadful.

I do agree that she needs to NIX Gil with the quickness. He's created some great routines for her ("All Nite", the SuperBowl, SNL "Strawberry Bounce"), and I know they're friends, but it's seriously time for him to go. Someone fresh and hungry with new ideas could be beneficial for her.

Jonte choregraphed the Superbowl performance.

btw, Gil recently hinted that he hasn't spoken to Janet in months so there's hope that he might get the boot some day.

Some of you all need to shut the f*ck up about what you expect (demand) from a performer. Seriously. Janet has proven herself as a capable interpretor of lyric, when she wants to. A perfect example:

It's interesting that Janet was allowed to mature as an artist during this era and sadly she and her hardcore fans appear to be stuck in some teenybopper mentality when it comes to her new work. The woman is not twenty, stop trying to act like it.

Two of the best live shows I've seen were Sade and Dolly Pardon. Both let their personalities shine sans dancing, pyrotechnics or elaborate stages. If Janet carried herself on stage with half the confidence and artistic pizazz, she could bring down the house. And nobody would miss any of the modern shortcuts and gimmicks to putting on a show.

Oh stfu rolleyes

The fact of the matter is nobody wants to see Janet do a Sade type of show because she's not that type of artist nor does she have the capability to do so. Btw, that video is from over 15 years ago back when Janet can actually sing live really well.

^^ If she had worked just as hard with her voice (she has a good one when she USES it lol), I wouldn't have a problem with this type of show. lol

Unless Janet wants to end up like Vegas Cher, standing in the center of the stage while two hundred gay dancers parade around in sequins and feathers, Janet is going to soon have to address her her stage persona. She's not get any younger. She's got the presence and the talent to morph into something new. Hopefully her views on her art aren't as critical of her capability as yours is.

I didn't say she was young and it's not like I like her shows now. The troop of dancers and lack of energy and charisma isn't doing much for me. Also she probably will end up like Cher lol The problem is she doesn't want something new. Obviously her views on her art is as critical as mine.

Cha know! It's embarrassing when I go see Madonna and she disappears from the stage for half of the dance routines. I didn't pay to see dancers, I paid to see Madge. Or worse, Cher standing on stage like a freaken Festivus pole while what looks like the entire cast of Zanadu is flailing around her.

And I mentioned Dolly Pardon cause I didn't want my point to be obscured by Sade's style. They are polar opposites on stage (Dolly loves to talk, Sade rarely) but they both found a way to captivate their audience sans throwing fifty dances on the stage.

I'll give another example: Grace Jones. The lady will eat you alive up on that stage. It's all about working what you got and Janet doesn't have that many years left of Dance! Dance! Dance in her.
