I used to love all this old school stuff back in the day. While all my friends were just buried in hip hop, I was steadily telling them about Prince, Sly, James, Parliament, Curtis...never did they want to hear it. Dont get me wrong, I dug the hip hop too, but these cats were lost.

Then we went and saw "Menace II Society" and there's the scene where MC Eiht, Odog and I dont remember the main characters name...they were riding in the car listening to "Love and Happiness" and suddenly my friends wanted to do the same. SUCKAS!!!

When Dre's "THe Chronic" hit, suddenly they wanted me to make them a copy of the "Mothership Connection"

Same when Snoop's "Doggy Style" dropped. I had been bumpin the "Superfly" soundtrack for years and they werent tryin to hear it. Suddenly they want copies of Curtis.

my friends do the same thing, especially the much, much younger ones. while it's irritating, i don't mind it and i keep it to myself. whatever the method of exposure, it's good when people get into the real (and real old) shit.
