Boyz II Men Readies Vegas Concert Series, Denies Lip-Synching at Xmas Show

I heard about this on the news, that Boyz II Men were in Vegas for a series of shows. I'm thinking that I want to go. Anyone else thinking of going?

Veteran R&B group Boyz II Men has been tapped for a string on concerts at the Flamingo Showroom in Las Vegas. Kicking off December 14th, the performance will run for four weeks, and will see the chart-topping group perform hits from their massive catalog as well as "some unexpected songs."

"We are thrilled to be doing a holiday show in Las Vegas and be in the famous Flamingo Showroom to share our songs from such a renowned stage," Nathan Morris of Boyz II Men states.

Boyz II Men, best know for hits like “I’ll Make Love To You,” “End Of The Road,” “Water Runs Dry,” and “On Bended Knee,” follows stars like Celine Dion and Toni Braxton for the Vegas run.

Group member Shawn Stockman also states that an extended run in Las Vegas has been on their list for sometime, this time however everything came together.

"It seemed so right to bring this show to a city steeped in such entertainment history during this special time of year,” says Stockman. “We have always wanted to do a longer run in Las Vegas and all the pieces came together this time to make our dream come true.”

Tickets are now available, including VIP Meet 'n Greet options, via the Flamingo Box office or by visiting flamingolasvegas.com. Show time is 7:30 p.m. each night and show dates are Dec. 14 – 18, 21 – 24, 26, 28 – 30 and Jan. 1 – 2 and 5 – 9.

In other news, a rep for Boyz II Men said that a technical glitch was to blame for one of the group’s songs being played twice during Tuesday night’s NBC Christmas special and that the group not lip-syncing during its performance.

NBC’s broadcast of its annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special was presented as a live concert event and included a performance of “This Christmas” by Boyz II Men. When that song concluded, Natalie Morales, an anchor of NBC’s “Today” show and a co-host of the Christmas special, introduced a performance by the pop singer Charice and the composer and pianist David Foster, who were supposed to be singing “Jingle Bell Rock.” Instead, as the cameras cut away to these musicians, the audio of the Boyz II Men rendition of “This Christmas” began to play.

In an interview with the New York Times, Jo Mignano, a publicist for Boyz II Men, said the accidental replay of “This Christmas” was the fault of NBC engineers.

“Boyz II Men is the best-selling R&B group of the last 20 years,” Ms. Mignano said. “They do not lip-sync.”

NBC said in a statement: “During last night’s ‘Christmas in Rockefeller Center’ special on NBC, a production issue caused some background musical tracks to play out of sequence. The musical acts on stage at the time, Boyz II Men and Charice were performing live. The issue was corrected for the West Coast telecast.”

I wouldn't base whether BIIM lip-syncs on what was an obvious production glitch. Anyone who's been to any kind of taping knows these sorts of things happen all the time. And, the fellas were definitely singing to a track. They'd probably brought a bunch of tracks with them. But I'd still say they were singing. shrug

Their sound has a huge, gaping hole where the bass should be.

This is what you want...This is what you get.

I've always wondered why they didn't replace Mike with another bass singer. IMO his voice was was that element that set them apart from other R&B groups of the 90s. music

I remember being anxious to hear their debut lp before it dropped, as I knew every lyric of ABC's lp and knew that BIIM had done the bvg's. lol Remember the first radio version of "Motownphilly" that began with the now classic acapella doo wop breakdown? The first time I heard that much of the intro of that song I KNEW it was BIIM, without the DJ even announcing it. The press was already marketing these guys as a young Temptations, with a hip-hop/ NJS sound.

music I need to dig out my old 12" single of that song and burn it to disc.

I remember hearing that type of hype too that they were the Temptations of the hip-hop/new jack swing generation. nod

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend going to watch them perform if you dig their catalogue. Wanye is particularly spectacular live! I seen them twice and the first time they blew Janet out the building and the second they destroyed K-Ci & Jojo vocally. The real deal!
Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...
