I definately see that happening some time next year. It would be nice if they included some bonus tracks. I already have all of her CDs so I'm not re-purchasing unless they are going to offer legitimate bonus material. Also hoping Universal/Motown will issue those tracks that she recorded for her first album that ended up in the can.

And I'm SURE she does....She's got alot of unreleased tracks! I can't think of the song titles...but the songs that were supposed to be on "La Dona"...that didn't make it...God, how I miss her!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe this was taken during her Emerald City period...I could be totally wrong of course, but it seems 1985, 1986-ish to me...

I've never seen these photos before. Really cool. I guess Epic must have been trying to turn her into some kind of a sex kitten, which is what the industry was starting to do with a lot of female artists around that time period.

They were from an album she recorded entitled "Black Rain". When she inked a deal with Cash Money, they released "La Dona" instead. Some, but not all, of the tracks from "Black Rain" ended up on there. Who knows how many other tracks she has sitting in her own vaults, not to mention what they are probably going to dig up over at Epic and Motown.

Hip-O usually does a great job with their Motown reissues. I have some Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye reissues that are chalk full of bonus tracks. "Lady T" is due for another reissue (that's the only title that has only received one reissue). The original CD issue contains 2 or 3 bonus tracks that were recorded for her debut album but didn't make it. A couple other tracks showed up on a compilation disc and on the last reissue for "Wild & Peaceful". I think there are something like 4 or 5 more songs that are still sitting in the vaults from that particular recording session.

Since Teena's passing, I have re-discovered "Casanova Brown". I've heard it several times, but never paid much attention to it and would usually skip over it on my Teena album....now I love it. It's quickly become one of my faves.

Seriously, why isn't this a sticky Mods? Teena has a huge following here. She deserves it. Even on hiphop sites like SOHH, she has a sticky, yet she can't get one on the org? .

Lady T songs have been going through my head nonstop since I heard the sad news. Still not up to playing anything yet. Can't believe this thread is 28 pages and still floating.

I try not to think about what might have been, but we weren't blessed to have seen her produce her memoir. I just know it would have been a page-turner chronicling her turbulent years at Motown, the ups and downs of her career, lost loves, the birth of her child and the process of song creation.

It seems so unfair to lose her like this, still writing and performing. A true artist to the end.

You always skipped over Cassanova Brown??? Don't you know that's illegal in ALL 50 states?! That track's a classic, from one of her strongest albums EVER, Robbery!

The music industry and music fans are still reeling from news of the death of R&B legend Teena Marie. Per her wishes, Marie will be cremated, and a private funeral for close family and friends will be held for the beloved singer. The blue-eyed soul singer died in her sleep last Sunday, having suffered multiple seizures last month. Marie was found in her home Christmas weekend by her daughter, who had celebrated her birthday the night before. A public memorial service will be held in the New Year, with details about the location to come. Rest in peace, Teena Marie.
