I'm looking for some opinions from the Hendrix fans. I've had Jimi's first three albums for a while and I'm finally branching out and I was going to spring for a box set but I'm wondering which one to get. Due to the price and dvd I'm heavily leaning towards West Coast Seattle Boy but if the other one is better I can easily be swayed.. Is there much or any overlap between the two box sets?

2nd one sounds "bootish" i'd go with the Boxed set. because it's Authentic Hendrix product

Actually, the Jimi Hendrix Experience box is mixed too loud and suffers from too much compression. The new West Coast Seattle Boy archive is as good as it looks on paper.

I got WCSB for Christmas but haven't listened to it yet.

My sister only got me the one-disc with DVD, so I'll have to get the 4-disc boxed-set....

The extremely out of print Stages box set! Download it if you do such things. Otherwise, I'm still waiting for someone I know to review WCSB (or somebody here, so get to it!). Sad to hear the compression is bad on the JHE box set, but I've never purchased any of the re-issues of those albums. I think I have multiple copies of all of them on vinyl and I'm happy to stick with those.

Stages is a fantastic set. West Coast Seattle has a track or two from Stages.

Does it have the Atlanta 'Hear My Train A Comin'? If so, it's probably worth it for that track alone!

I just picked up W.C.S.B yesterday and I have to say it's a rockin' box set. I like it just as much as the 2000 box set and "Stages".

Disc One is the HIGHLIGHT of the box set IMHO. 15 tracks of Jimi being the sideman for Little

Richard, The Isleys, Don Covay (and others) are so exciting to hear. You can also hear some

of the r&b, Curtis Mayfield things that Jimi did on the guitar that would later become his style..

(Little Wing, Electric Ladyland, Angel, etc)..It's great to finally hear this stuff. Jimi was a true R&B man at the end of the day.

Disc Two has the classic stuff we've all heard before but they're remixed and some songs like

"Castles", "My Friend" and "Hear My Train" are alternate or demo versions. There's also never

before heard cuts like "Little One, "Mr Bad Luck", "Tears Of Rage" and "Calling All The Devil's

Children". Great to hear for the first time.

Disc Three has 1969 live versions of "The Banner-Purple Haze" and alternate versions of "Room Full Of Mirrors" and "Message Of Love". But there's more never before heard cuts of songs like

"Shame, Shame, Shame", "Messenger" (which has some great pop sounding piano blending in with Jimi's guitar), "Untitled Basic Track" and my new favorite "Mastermind". Larry Lee sings lead

on this slow R&B cut and Jimi's guitar is just soaring all the way thru from start to finish. A really

nice ballad that probably would be right at home on a early 1970's soul record.

Disc Four has more unreleased cuts like "Lonely Avenue", "All God's Children", "Bolero", "Play That Riff" and "Burning Desire" (instrumental). There's also another great song called "Everlasting First"..It's Jimi playing lead guitar with Arthur Lee and his band Love. This track is killer too.

The DVD is nice and tells Jimi's story narrated by Bootsy Collins (as if he were Jimi telling his story)..Disc One can also be put into your computer to see some extra bonus footage too.

..As a Jimi bootleg collector for many years, this box set was worth the $. Hearing close to 16 new, never before heard cuts (except "Burning") and the Jimi-sideman disc makes this a nice

package for the Jimi fan.

I know people give Janie a lot of shit, but I'm glad to see this stuff is being put out. I know down the road the estate will be releasing "Royal Albert Hall" on CD and a DVD docu-concert to go along with it. And in 2012 the full Miami Pop concert on CD and DVD will be released.

They were selling it at "Experience Hendrix"

It's hard 2 say but, I will say this: Just go get them both bcuz they're both great projects. The West Coast Seattle Boy album is a good and that DVD is amazing. The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Box Set) is good as well. U can't go wrong with that but, I think u should get them both. I got them both. I'm a huge Hendrix fan. Anything released by "Experience Hendrix" along with "Dagger Records" is a win. It's Authentic Hendrix product, so u can't go wrong with that.
