Hear, hear!
This album is my "back to my roots" album. My mum played this album to me all the time (esp. "Sir Duke") when I was a wee boy. It's one of the reasons why I got a lotta soul and rhythm today!

This album has been the most listed album on the .org, outside of a Prince album, as a "best pick" by other .orgers. There's several reasons as 2 it's longevity.
* Probably one of the best written albums ever recorded. The soul, the vocals, the musicianship. It peaked at all levels of interest. * The fact that Stevie did this deed in his early twenties... mmm, mmm, mmm. This marked his "genius" level of work. * Songs like, "I Wish", "Sir Duke", "Isn't She Lovely", "Village Ghetto Land", "Knocks Me Off My Feet", "As", "Love's In Need Of Love", etc... (I can go on, and on, and on...) U can't count Stevie out... I look forward 2 this year's release...(hope, hope, hope) Of course, u can always look at this thread 4 more Stevie LOVIN'... http://www.prince.org/msg...msg_446028 |

Btw,did any of you see the documentary on the making of this album? It was released in 1997 from Rhino Video. It shows Stevie talking about the album, and there is a reunion with the bandmembers who played on it.There are also interviews with folks like Quincy Jones and Coolio (who turned "Pastime Paradise" into "Gangsta's Paradise").It's a great documentary but I just wish it was longer, and that they discussed more than just a few tracks.
The most interesting thing is,it was revealed that Stevie recorded many more tunes for this album that,to this day, remain unreleased.I would kill to hear the outtakes from this album!

Innervisions will be my next purchase. I haven't heard that in such a long time. And I'll no doubt devote a thread to it, too.

GREAT album!!! I knew the lyrics to nearly every song including "As." Other favorites: "Isn't She Lovely," "All Day Sucker," "Village Ghetto Land," "I Wish"... I could go on.
I seem to remember that the instrumental "Contusion" was was not on the actual album but came as a bonus 45. I could be wrong... Does any one else remember this???

No,"Contusion" appeared on the regular album. It has always been the fourth track on the album (in-between "Village Ghetto Land" and "Sir Duke").I think you are referring to the bonus 45 that came with the 2-record set in the 70s.This 45 contains four bonus tracks... "Saturn" "Ebony Eyes" "All Day Sucker" "Easy Goin Evening (My Mama's Call)"

Speaking of "Contusion",I have always felt that it sounds very much like a Santana song. The guitar-playing sounds just like Carlos, and the song wouldn't have been out of place on Santana's 'Amigos' album (1976).

Some of the guitar parts are too technical to be like Santana, in my opinion (as a guitarist). I actually think parts of it bear more resemblance to Yes or Frank Zappa. By the way, Stevie thanks Frank Zappa in the credits.

Who DOESN'T Stevie thank in the credits?...lol...out of all the albums I own,I have never seen so many "thank you"s in the credits.Stevie seems to be a really appreciative person Btw,Carlos Santana was so moved by this album that he dedicated his own 1977 album 'Festival' to Stevie Wonder. edit... I also remember reading an interview with one of Stevie's closest friend where he said that Stevie has some type of contract and/or agreement with Motown in which he orders that upon his death all unreleased songs are to be destroyed.

Yeah, for some reason,Stevie doesn't really want his unreleased songs to reach the public. That's why there are no unreleased bonus tracks on his 4-CD box set,or on the remasters of his 70s albums.
