I'm always pitting against Marvin, Sam and Stevie in the male department.

Stevie? lol

I love Stevie but goodness people overrate him as a singer. He fully depends on emoting. Hardly any vocal techniques.

But IMO, Donny Hathaway > Stevie and Marvin.

Thank you. With Stevie it's more about what he's saying rather than how he's singing it. He's not in the same league as the master class.

Donny & Marvin are more on the same level.

OK I give you Donny over Stevie... how about Ray Charles? wink

Ray is superior to Stevie as well. He really isn't given the credit he deserves.

Ray Charles is one of a few people to me that could jump from genre to genre and still be able to sound amazing. Country, pop, soul...he could sing anything.

Elvis is another one like that.

That brother's vocal talent was too much. To me, he and Aretha are at the tops really. Interesting their careers followed similar paths except Aretha never done country albums lol

Every time Donny is brought up, I still get upset that this guy died the way he did. disbelief He had so much potential. sad

Ikr! cry He's just so amazing and criminally underrated. He was a phenomenal pianist too! One of a kind.

That's an understatement. Same can be said about Aretha. I don't know why because I used to always recognize Aretha on the piano but that girl can do more than tickle some ivories like Donny and Ray. It blew me away especially when she does "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Dr. Feelgood" on keys...
