James Brown's Soulsister # 1 and original Funky Diva MARVA WHITNEY We have a treat coming up for Funk fans in New York City or those who want to make the trip for a fabulous New Years Eve Soul experience featuring James Brown's Soulsister # 1 Marva Whitney!
Marva was Soulbrother #1's main female protige in the late 1960s, which is considered the climax of his career. With Brown, she recorded many Soul and Funk anthems, like It's my thing, Things got to get better and Unwind yourself. In recent years, she has enjoyed her comeback with many tours through Japan, Europe, Australia and the United States and her latest album I am what I am.
One year ago, Marva had a stroke on stage while performing at Falls Festival in Lorne, Australia. She spent most of the year recovering, and next week's NYC city concert is her first big show since her stroke.
Also on the bill is Billy Prince, lead vocalist of the Northern Soul group The Precisions from Detroit. To round up the party, there'll be DJ sets by rare Soul and deep Funk DJs Mr. Robinson and Honky (Dig Deeper Crew, NYC) and yours truly. This will be a great way to spend New Years Eve, so if you're in town or still looking for a good reason to spend NYE in the Big Apple, this is your chance! And keep in mind that the Dig Deeper serious is the best Soul party NYC has to offer, so we know it'll be a winner.
