worldwide

1. Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time by the Guinness World Records. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), she is the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second top-selling female artist in the United States, behind Barbra Streisand, with 64 million certified album

2.According to Island Def Jam, Mariah Carey has sold more than 200 million albums, singles and videos worldwide, which makes her one of the world's best-selling music artists.[

3. In 2004, after surpassing 175 million in album sales worldwide, she was presented with the Chopard Diamond Award at the World Music Awards for becoming the best-selling female artist of all time.[23][24] According to Sony Music Entertainment, Celine Dion has sold over 200 million albums worldwide.[25]

Madonna is. If anything the real fight is between Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. I have seen some heated discussions between stans when it comes to record sales comparisons for both acts. It gets real ugly fast.

They are almost as bad as the Beatles v. MJ v. Elvis record sales comparisons.

Beyonce allegedly sold about 100 million if not 50 million. I really believe her figures are exagerrated though, but I would love to see an accurate list

As for Madonna and Mariah, they have been competing for that title for the past 10-15 years. I remember being so sure Madonna would get female artist of the milennium at the world music awards in 2000 and was surprised it was Mariah. After that, if Madonna released an album, she would sell and be marketed as the best selling female, then Mariah would come out with one (around Mimi time I believe) and be marketed that way, and the same thing again once Confessions on a Dancefloor beat its' sales and onwards. I believe Madonna has won now though, she was always bigger internationally, Mariah was only like that in the 90's and set a great record in a short time. I'm a huge fan of both so it's kind of fun seeing them compete like that smile

I don't know where Celine stands today, but she and Mariah had about the same sales figures in the 90's

Yeah I figured they combined it with Destiny's Child, but her dad was claiming otherwise.

No. She sold exactly 20 million albums worldwide as a solo act.

This is one of those amorphous stats that depends on how you use it. If you rely strictly on record sales, then Mariah Carey is probably the leader, but if you combine record sales with DVD sales, tour grosses, etc., then Madonna wins hands down.

Um LOL. No, Madonna is in the lead in both record sales and even with DVD sales, tours and etc. Mariah sold around 175 million records. Madonna sold 200 million and Celine follows closely behind.

They always mistake it for being Mariah due to the PR Sony put out in the 90s, and Mariah's willingness to turn to to the World Music Awards at the drop of a hat which essentially mean nothing. I don't think I've ever seen Madonna at the World Music Awards or even acknowledge their existence, so think the Prince & Princesses of Monaco just go to Mariah and fake all of their figures.

Every neutral and data-based estimation I have seen puts Madonna on top with around 300m records sold, Celine second at over 200m and Mariah slightly behind Celine at third place
