Raphael Saadiq unveils tracklist for Stone Rollin’ LP

Rhythmic maestro Raphael Saadiq has a new album on the way titled Stone Rollin’ ["I’ve been rolling dice my entire career, taking risk my whole life, and still doing so. I’m Stone Rolling once again," he told Vibe last month] and this week, he shared his latest project with Santa Monica radio station KCRW.

“On Raphael Saadiq’s last album he channeled the ‘ghosts of The Temptations,’ as he says. On his new one, Stone Rollin’, he keeps that retro style, but takes it MUCH further – as DJ Jeremy Sole says, ‘It’s his Electric Ladyland‘.” report KCRW.

“At a listening party at his studio last night, all the DJs gathered there agreed it is an album you will be hearing on the air a LOT in 2011.”

That's too bad, lol. When I first read that Raphael Saadiq had a new LP coming out, the first thing I thought was "I hope it doesn't have the same sound as that last one", lol. I appreciate Raphael as an excellent musician, but I wasn't completely feeling the 60's sound of his last album.

Still, I look forward to hearing the new one.

60's Tempations is something totally different than 60's Electric Ladyland. I'm definitely looking forward to the new album more after hearing that description.

I can't wait for the new Raphael album to come out While I liked the last album, it didn't get me all hot and bothered inside like the retro 60's album from the last Tonies album. Hopefully this new one he's getting ready to release will be a step above the last one.

I liked a few songs off of it but i would have dug it more had it been 70's retro.

Holy smokes and gee whiz!

Thank for the heavens for writers/producers like Ray Ray. Soul and R & B music would otherwise be bleaker. He's an under-appreciated musician and a great balladeer, if I might say so.

Ray Ray was basically 70s retro, some of it at least.

Yeah a few songs like the Curtis Mayfield like Grown Folks. I guess that's

why i liked it better.

His last album didn't turn me on all that much but then I saw him with his 60's retro band on PBS's Austin City Limits and he was awesome.

I LOVED the songs done live... the album, not so much.

I wish the Tonys never split up.

Curious about this new album though.

Oh yeah I got that cd downstairs in my collection. That was a cool album, not his best, but it was still cool. I love his look during that time too. The nice neat wild fro' with the earring in his ear...whew, he was actually kind of fine during that phase.

I did like the sound actually...it was just that there was not alot of catchy tunes...however he had some Raphael classics on there..

GEMS. I think he just kind of fell off on the songwriting. Ray Ray may stillbe my favorite album, however i did like the sound he captured on The Way I See It and glad that he is still doing it....

His tour was awesome...tight choreography and the songs actually sound better live than they did on the album itself.
