Poison ~ Let Me Lay My Funk On You You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ok, this is what I don't get-the only band I knew of as Poison is the hair metal band. Wouldn't there be copyright issues-2 bands having the same name. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

There's several bands named Poison. It's a generic name. This group was out in the 1970's. The Bret Michaels' group came out later. There is another group from the 70's called Wham. When George & Andrew's Wham! debut album was originally released in the US, it was credited as Wham! UK. There's also a jazz group from France (I think) called Gap Band. There's several other groups with the same name, and also singers with the same name. Since the funk band Poison is obscure and only made one album on some little known label, the name probably wasn't registered.
