"Behind the mask" is abit odd as the verses are jumbled up compared to the Greg Phillingaines and Eric Clapton's versions. Michael repeats the "I walk around suffering in my doom" verse twice and the chorus sounds abit unfinished? Also he clearly misses
Despite maybe John McClain re-arranging Mike's demo vocals, I do think he did a good job on "Behind the mask" and the simple, countryish "Much too soon". I wish he would of left them alone, but hey, maybe one day we will get the demo versions. Only thing I really don't like about "Behind the mask" is the fake live adlibs from Mike (sound "HIStory" era but it's just abit stupid anyway). The sax on the song was neat though, even if that probably means it won't be a radio single now LOL.
So "Much too soon" is my fav track. "Another day" is kinda average and reminds me of how bad a lyricist Lenny Kravitz often is. "Best of joy" has yet to grow on me but may yet and "behind the mask", whilst good, is a song I have been hearing since I was a young kid and know Eric Claptons so well now that I still prefer his version with Collins' gorgeous (if all too brief) ethereal coda, but it's still a decent version though, even if it's clear Mike's vocals were only in demo form.

I feel the CEY mix (I think thats what its called) of Another Day is better than Lennys version. Hell I think the origonal demo was better than Lennys mix. | |
