10 Grammy nods, so what it's a bunch of old white folks what did you expect
You have no idea what you are talking about. Terry Lewis from The Time is the head of the Grammy committee. Jermaine Dupri was on it before, but stepped down. SMH at "old white folks" and your ignorant racism. Eminem got 10 Grammy nods because he deserved them, not because he is white.
Michael Jackson won 7 Grammys back in 1983..... and you're trying to say that while the rest of the world became more racially progressive over the past 27 years, the Grammy committee became more racist and now they nominate people based on their color of their skin.
Either you're a troll, or an idiot. Or perhaps a combination of the two. |

I don't even hate hip hop, but considering how huge it it, it is sad how little competition Kanye has. Even to those who know it better than I do, only a handful of names are suggested as real contenders--Jay Z, Eminem, Outkast... |

I do not hate hip hop either, although I prefer the old school acts. I like Run DMC, Whodini, Grandmaster Flash, and The Beastie Boys. Outkast and Eminem are cool but I think Kanye blows. |

If THIS is about rhyme skills, then Eminem & Jay-Z are better candidates than Kanye.
If THIS is about music as an artform, then OutKast (Big Boi/Andre 3000) are better candidates than Kanye.
If THIS is about producing/beatmaking, then Timbaland is a better candidate that Kanye.
THE END.
I have no argument with any of that.

I have not listened to enough Kanye to have a real opinion, but what I have heard did not inspire me to listen to more, unlike Eminem or Outkast (who would be my overall choice--if only they had done more in the past few years)
I have never been a fan of Jay-Z either and I've heard lots of his stuff |

People look at kanye as a producer that raps that’s all , I think he’s pretty decent though. I don’t like the stereotypical rapper all of the time I like people to be a little different and creative. I enjoy him, I think kanye is very creative with his work but as far as being lyrical he’s not all that. Recovery was much better than relapse and I played it a lot when it was first release but I can’t listen to it now it’s pretty Mediocre when I look back at it and this is coming from someone who enjoys Eminem , but I like how he was being reflective on the album. Love the way you lie was my song . I think Eminem running out of ideas though. |

Big Boi is solo now and I recommended people to check out his album. Andre is suppose to be releasing a album and then a new outkast album was going to be released. |

I'll admit that I know very little about hip hop but I think that even people who are big fans of Kanye would admit that he is not the best rapper. Forget about songwriting and producing, as a rapper do you really think that Kanye is the best? |

No he isn't. Even if we're just talking about people who's debut solo albums dropped after 2000, I can think of at least 10 better emcees. |

You seem like a pretty big fan of Kanye so I will trust your judgement but purely as a rapper do you honestly think he is the best of his generation? Let's say he had someone else writing/producing his music, based only on his rapping is he the best? I may catch hell for this and it's not a perfect comparison but let's compare Kanye to Bob Dylan. Dylan is widely considered to be one of the best artists of the '60s but he was not blessed with a great voice. The reason he is great is because of his songwriting. If he came up in the '60s but had to rely on other peoples songs it seems very unlikely that anyone would remember him today (yes, I know that Dylan did some great covers but he's not really remembered for them). I kind of see Kanye the same way. If you look at his ability to rap he is probably average but it's his songs/productions that elevate him above the competition. |

For those who do like Kanye how about recommending me an album? I have his first album but I haven't listened to it very much, I gave it a few spins but it didn't really grab me. I don't think I'll ever like his music but I'm willing to give him another listen.
Late Registration is probably his best overall work. Or his latest one.
Individual standout songs:
Hey Mama
Gold Digger
Stronger (Live at 08 Grammys)
Lost In The World
Monster
Good Life
All Falls Down
Jesus Walks
Street lights
All Of The Lights
Flashing lights (lol he makes good songs with the word "lights" clearly)

Kanye West is this decade's version of Puffy. Hip Hop is in a bad place and the evidence is in what is being labeled "great". "New Power slide...." |

Hip-Hop artist, the overall package, he has been the best this decade.
Did anyone here say he was lyrcists of the year, deacade? NO
He is above average as far as a rapper, just as Jimi was an above average singer, Prince an above average singer, Rick James an above average guitar player, but it's the entire package that people enjoy |
